We need to play a tight 3 instead of Ramsey and McGinn playing so wide. Too many times we are left outnumbered in the middle. Doesn’t matter who your DM is he can’t pick up 3 players. It’s been a problem ever since we started playing this formation. It won’t change until we go back to a system where not everything goes through our fullbacks. Unfortunately, when they push so high, our midfield need to cover and we become exposed. Sometimes it works, but more often than not it hinders us. Gerrard has got a real problem on his hands if he thinks he can go through this season playing the way we are. He won’t be in a job after Xmas unless he can spot the obvious. We badly need another defensive minded midfielder and to switch formation.
theboyangel
We need to stop the 2 striker experiment - neither look good together despite multiple attempts of giving them playing time together. Id look at playing Luiz alongside Kamara with McGinn and Ramsey ahead of them and Buendia/Coutinho off a lone striker. The experiment has failed and leaves our midfield exposed far too often. Zatman
McGinn has to be dropped completely, Luiz and Sanson did more in pre season than him Coutinho also should be dropped but as he was a marquee signing its not happening. If Coutinho has to play maybe use him as a false 9 with Bailey sprinting in behind him
sne
Please stop trying to make Watkins & Ings happen, it's not going to happen While both fine players on their own I don't feel McGinn & Ramsey complements each other all that well as a midfield duo. Buendia currently offers more than Coutinho IMO. Love to have them both on the pitch, if that's not possible then go with Buendia The system puts a ridiculous amount of strain on whoever is playing the deep DCM role. Be it Kamara or Luiz or Nakamba. I don't like it tbf. Having no width apart from the full backs and still losing the central midfield in not great. Luiz offers ball retention in a way no other of our CM's does, we kinda need it. Him and Kamara should start IMO. The pace of Bailey makes us so much harder to defend against. If free from his injury issues he probably should start most times. What does it all mean? Not sure. Think a 4-2-3-1 with Kamara and Luiz in midfield behind Buendia, Coutinho, Bailey would be interesting but that leaves Ramsey on the bench... Bailey as striker? Not sure. Don't think we will move away from a back 4 but 3-4-2-1 might be worth looking at. This pre season and the second half of last season has mainly showed us what isn't working rather than what is. Hopefully we've learned our lessons from this.

Yes he looks stronger and fitter, but battling with a PL defender for 90 is a different ball game. At most you could play him as an SS slightly deeor behind the striker, as he can shoot. DCJonah
We have to let Bailey drift wide. We have to stop playing 2 forwards Buendia has to start Luiz has to start I worry none of these will happen.

Farlz
Emi Cash - DC - Mings - Digne Kamara - Luiz Bailey - Buendia - Coutinho Striker Emi Cash - DC - Mings - Digne Luiz - Kamara - McGinn/Ramsey Bailey - Striker - Buendia It has to be something like these for me. Gerrard has to at least give it a try, just no more Ings and Watkins 2 up top. That has to stop from this point forwards.
