Toney has scored 7 and 14 non penalty goals in his last two seasons from 7.4 and 13.6 xG

Watkins has scored 13, 10 and 14 non penalty goals from 13, 11 and 14.6 xG

So they both score at their rate of xG and Toney has never outscored Watkins from open play. When it comes to goals it's Toney's penalties which skew his stats rather than his open play goal scoring.

A striker should be scoring goals from penalties and the fact Watkins can't, is a negative against him.

Except if we have a better penalty taker at the club. If Luiz is our designated taker and he scores them then Watkins ability from the spot is irrelevant to our teams performance.

We both know Watkins was taken off penalties because he was so bad at them, not because Luiz was always considered better.

Yes, but penalties are set pieces. The best taker from the team should (and usually does) take them. When it comes to a teams performance it's GKs and the teams Penalty takers that matter in that situation. Not specifically the strikers ability to score penalties.

However, being the best penalty taker at the club and one of the best in the league is clearly a big plus. Toney has score 8/11 in PL which is 0.73 conversion rate and the xG from Penalties are 0.79 so he's been about or slightly below average.

I think he’s more of an instinct player. When he has too much time to make a decision he doesn’t do as well.  Might be why he’s poor at penalties. Overthinks it.

Seem like fans expect him to dscore on every single chance. Completely unreasonable.

Once again been absolutely superb

Even if he missed that chance it would still be an 8/10 performance.

I can't criticise him today. Solid passing, solid holdup, and you can't beat a roof of the net near post finish. Hasselbaink esque.

I think it’s a standard Ollie performance excellent but could have scored a Hatrick . Regardless He’s one of the best strikers in the country .

If we lost or drew would you still have given him 8 out 10?

Yep.

Always judge players on their overall performance not just moments.

Thankfully that's how Emery analyze his performances too
