Its financial suicide The arrogant 6 dont realise how much they need the other teams. For the clubs not in the 6/special it would be like jumping off a cliff edge. They would be mad to vote for it. I wonder if this is deliberate so the big clubs can say "Well we did try, we're the good guys here but look at that nasty lot there voting against it. Oh well, we did our bit" Sounds like something from Yes Minister where to make something happen the way they want they put forward another option so unpalatable that they get their original wish granted, in this case keep all the cash and don't help out the leagues.

They can only do that because it's a closed environment. If there were other countries with similarly strong leagues in those sports they would have to change their model or the top stars would just leave. You just couldn't operate English football in that way.

The other 3 having power to veto ownership changes will be very tempting. They're at 9 of 14. And you're right, I expect a huge amount of backlash from the rest of the football pyramid but also politically to push this through to "support grassroots football". We need to hope 5 other clubs don't cave under the pressure.

Posted October 11, 2020 Moderator Popular Post Share Posted October 11, 2020 https://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/premier-league-statement-liverpool-proposal-22827323 Quote A statement declared: “We have seen media reports today regarding a plan to restructure football in this country. “English football is the world’s most watched, and has a vibrant, dynamic and competitive league structure that drives interest around the globe. “To maintain this position, it is important that we all work together. "Both the Premier League and The FA support a wide-ranging discussion on the future of the game, including its competition structures, calendar and overall financing particularly in light of the effects of COVID-19. “In the Premier League’s view, a number of the individual proposals in the plan published today could have a damaging impact on the whole game and we are disappointed to see that Rick Parry, Chair of the EFL, has given his on-the-record support. “The Premier League has been working in good faith with its clubs and the EFL to seek a resolution to the requirement for COVID-19 rescue funding. This work will continue.” The league have said no. And not just no - but a hell no. Parry just became a dead duck. 4

Popular Post OutByEaster? Posted October 11, 2020 Moderator Popular Post Share Posted October 11, 2020 I've just noticed that also amongst the proposals was a later league start date to allow for "more preseason tours, friendlies and a summer Premier League Tournament." I'd actually like to see Fenway and the Glazers held to account over this - there should be some sort of repercussion for them.

Jareth
I’m all for some tweaks but this is quite a mad and arrogant play, I wonder if they ever gave thought to how it’d be received.
PieFacE Posted October 11, 2020 VT Supporter Share Posted October 11, 2020 Wow this proposal is utter dogshit. Hope it gets outright rejected pretty quickly.
Xela
Rick Parry can GTFO. Didn't he get caught on secret camera saying something controversial earlier in the year?
sidcow Posted October 11, 2020 VT Supporter Share Posted October 11, 2020 The best thing that could happen this season is Manchester United get relegated. That would put the cat amongst the pigeons! If Southampton and the like can't see that this would end up with them being just there to be whipping boys they are fools. 100% guaranteed that they WILL go down the direct streaming route with each team taking their own share of the payments will leave Man U and Liverpool in such a dominant position it would be a weekly embarrassment. Their idea of a good match would be to be beaten by less than 3 goals. The league would be more skewed than Scotland. It would so end the likes of Spurs and Arsenal ever having a crack at the title. The global fan base of those 2 clubs is just so far ahead of everyone else.
deeps
Never going to happen. How Parry is involved with football still is beyond me. Also, as much as the idea is ridiculous it did annoy me that Southampton and West Ham are seen as a bigger outfit than us or Newcastle.

Popular Post OutByEaster? Posted October 11, 2020 Moderator Popular Post Share Posted October 11, 2020 This is a decent response: https://www.liverpool.com/liverpool-fc-news/features/liverpool-fsg-premier-league-glazers-19086446 Quote John Henry and FSG's Premier League power-grab should be opposed by Liverpool's supporters It is, in essence, a tour de force of self-serving, self-righteous, conceited, faux-progressive nonsense. I have written at length about similar behaviour between FSG, the city of Boston, and the Red Sox which you can read here -- you should give it your time. The proposal is right out of Henry's playbook. At first glance, there are some solid ideas there. There is a genuine blueprint to fix some of the issues plaguing the sport, to stop the boom-or-bust mentality rampant in the football league, and to make the Premier League more accessible to a wider swath of fans -- on TV and in person. And that’s what the Big Six want the consensus to be: A plan where everybody gets a little of something, and, awh shucks, whadya know, at the end of it, they wind up with all of the power and the really, really good stuff. For the price of a few tickets and a £350 million bail-out, they get to control the sport in whatever way they want for however long they want. £350 million in one-off payments? That's small potatoes. Being able to re-format the calendar around an increase in Champions League games and a pair of summer tournaments? Well, those a multi-billion pound propositions. How much do you think those changes alone will increase the valuation of each top-six club? That’s all this is: A power-grab. A power-grab in the midst of a pandemic when industries are reeling and people are hurting. A power-grab in the same week that the league’s owners approved a plan 19-to-1 -- with Leicester the sole holdout -- to continue to decide they are going to introduce a huge hike in the price that supporters have to pay to watch their team in action. It is Amazon hoovering up high-street stores and telling you they're reducing the cost of a Prime membership and bringing back Good Girls Revolt while charging $5 at Whole Foods for 100% water. Yeah, that's good and all, but what if you decide to boost those prices in the future or cancel after a second season? Should a natural resource cost that much? Oh, don't worry -- trust us! Ok! 5
