Transfer Thread Summer 2019

Interesting take on the transfer circus.

He has some points tbf

Quote

The reality of football where banks and owners are always willing to inflate the economic air castle has simply put the sums of money into play money. The consequence is that the football clubs have begun to change some sort of economic allowances to cope with the FFP with each other instead of valuable crowns and the eagle, with the result that the players' value is now more reflected by the context in which they have ended up in than how good they really are as football players.

Ousmane Dembélé cost what he cost because Barcelona had received a huge salary and transfer space after the sale of Neymar. They had received financial allowances and traded them in other players. Money for player development and infrastructure, which is outside the FFP, they still have.

Joao Felix now goes for 1.3 billion for the simple reason Atlético Madrid is also selling Antoine Griezmann for 1.2 billion. Joao Felix is not worth more money than Eden Hazard but Atlético had more allowances than Real had when they took the Belgian. But what does this mean?

When Inter and Barcelona switched Zlatan Ibrahimovic against Samuel Eto'o in 2009, it was something very rare. This summer we have already seen Italian Roma both shifting Kostas Manolas towards Amadou Diawara with Napoli and Luca Pellegrini against Leonardo Spinazzola with Juventus. It just looks like it is the beginning of the prey purse.

At the time of writing, Real Madrid is alleged to try to bring Gareth Bale as a partial payment to Paul Pogba while Juventus offers Blaise Matuidi in his dealings with Manchester United about the same player. In Spain, Barcelona is packing down the world's fourth most expensive player Philippe Coutinho to use him as a down payment for history's most expensive Neymar.

The biggest winners of this are the agents who suddenly sit on the keys and send players back and forth against double and sometimes triple commissions. Paul Pogba's fate may well end with Mino Raiola convinced the Frenchman to nobba Real to sign for Juventus instead so that Raiola can send Matuidi the opposite way and at the same time claim that he worked for both Juventus and United in the deal.

Joao Felix, in turn, is represented by Jorge Mendes, who has acknowledged strong ties to both Madrid and Benfica. It is also here that the allowance allowances leave the football and turn into real money again.

Atlético Madrid had $ 1.3 billion in allowances over and needed a striker. Benfica will be forced to use a hefty lump of the sum they got for Felix to pay an overprice for his replacement (like Barça did with Dembélé) and then it continues downhill in the food chain. In this way, the emission rights of the emission rights are balanced without any club becoming really much happier, but Jorge Mendes, on the other hand, can happily walk out of the Spanish office with what is alleged to be almost 380 million in commission. Money that will never come to the benefit of football again.

FFP has created a football world where the big clubs change ownership interests with each other of the total football cake without the increasing amounts actually being one of them beneficial. This at the same time as the agents suck out money and live luxury life by pushing up prices using the same system.

That's why Joao Felix costs 1.3 billion. Not because he's in any way the world's fifth, or third, best football player. At least not yet.

What actually happened with Subotic? Remember he was massively rated at Dortmund for a time when Klopp was there. Was a regular when they won the Bundesliga and had their CL run. Usual links with the european giants. Got some bad injuries but was it just that or was he not that good?

Managed to get his big money move in the end. Don't blame him, he was never going to go onto better things so you may as well semi retire and earn some serious coin.

Even so I still don't really see the attraction in doing that.  One day I'd like a journalist to ask a player who just moved basically for more money what exactly they plan to spend it on.

I understand what you mean but I hate when media call it a big money move. He was probably on about 100k a week at West Ham

The problem with his big money move to west ham is he then has no where else to go, no one in Europe is touching him for that kind of money

Some of these players are backing themselves in to a corner and China is the only way out, it's not the move to China that's necessarily the shit one chasing money, it's the bad move before it

Some of these guys actually been playing in China longer than I thought, think Oscar has been there since 2016 hasn't he? Thought likes of him and Ramires would do two years max to top up their pensions and then come back to play in europe.

So Pontus Jansson to Brentford for £6m.

Can we expect the media to proclaim we've made a £20m bid later in the week?

Interesting though. I wonder if Brentford have already sold one of their other players? 5.5M seems like a lot of money for them.

I mean that respectfully. They are a well run club who (as we know all too well) punch above their weight.

They probably know that they will be selling Maguire for ~£80m.

Leicester were spending 25-30m in the summer they won the league.

Musa and Slimani cost that and both completely flopped, think Slimani is still actually Leicester player but they're endlessly loaning him out.

Also signed Iheanacho for 25m from Man. City and he's never really looked that good for them either.

Also signed Adrien Silva (eventually) for 22m and he never got to grips with premier league and is also getting loaned out.

Tielemans looked very good for them so think it's a coup they've signed him full time. Surely Man. United or Arsenal should've been looking at him if they're serious about getting in top 4.

Man. United being linked with Lemina who barely played for Southampton last season. We'll end up with a better midfield than them.
