Never liked Midnight Resistance. It's all about the Beastcast.

I've not listened to any of the Beastcast so far, just hasn't crossed my mind. Saying that I find Alex very hit and miss.

Midnight Resistance I really enjoy though, though it lives and dies a little on the quality of the additional guests. It's not Joypod, but it nearly is...

Listened to episode 2 of Serial and I think what Rev said earlier in the thread about the first season being lightning in a bottle is correct. This story just isn't that compelling, and it lacks a crucial element in that we don't experience a rapport between Sarah and Bowe as was the case with her and Adnan in the first season. And the music isn't as good.

Ya, I thought one of the best bit about the first season was the intrigue provided by this new story. Way to much of the current guys story is pretty fresh in peoples minds.

I've become hopelessly addicted to bunch of Cave Comedy Radio podcasts, particularly Last Podcast on the Left and Abe Lincolns Top Hat. Last Podcast on the Left is a horror comedy podcast that looks into famous murderers and paranormal topics. Its hosted by 3 guys, 2 of which are comedians (one had a minor role in the Wolf of Wall Street). It's certainly, absolutely not for everyone, as the subject matter can be horrifically dark and the comedy is very American and often also as black as black gets, tinged with some incredibly childish stuff, but it can be hilarious and eye opening to some of the horrors that are committed in the world, or the absolutely barking mad stuff some people believe. Equally I've listened to some episodes and felt dirty afterwards so listener beware. Topics have ranged from 3 part discussions on the murders of HH Holmes recently, to alien abductions and associated conspiracies. Listen to the episode on the Hotel del Coronado abduction for a softer introduction if you fancy a listen. Abe Lincoln's Top Hat takes a couple of the LPOTL guys and usually a guest and discusses the state of US politics in a very populist way but can be fun.

Just wanted to say thanks for the recommendation on LPOTL. Started listening about a week ago and it's great! I think they take the right angle on these things by doing it as a black comedy. You learn about the crimes and stories surrounding it, including very often the inept police investigation (follows on quite nicely from making a murderer) but it's actually very funny at times. I dread to think how I would explain laughing out loud on the bus to 3 guys who are in the middle of talking about a mass murderers horrific crimes.

I think I have done about 10 now including Richard Ramirez, Fred and rose west. H H Holmes and even the most recent ones with Leonard lake and Charles Ng (the best so far I think)

Glad you like it. Certainly not for everyone, but I've unashamedly laughed my arse off at some episodes. Given what they talk about, that's saying something.

Give a couple of the non-murder episodes a listen, the stuff they do on aliens and the paranormal is fascinating and hilarious. Particularly the Hotel del Coronado and the Betty and Barney Hill episodes, and the Dulce Base episode.

Some of the 'Heavy Hitters' episodes are quite hard to listen to, as funny as they can be the subject matter goes seriously dark. Toybox Killer, BTK, Dahmer, those I found hard going, and particularly Chikatilo - those episodes, for some reason, haunted me after listening.

If you want something that is funny but a little different try the "My Dad Wrote a Porno" podcast.

Essentially someone's dad has written an erotic novel - so they read it and critique it chapter by chapter.

I had moments over Christmas where I was crying with laughter.

Not sure if it's a podcast as such, but the Handsworth edition of Mark Steel's In Town was on Radio 4 again today. Well worth a listen, and available on the BBC website I'm sure.

The Parapod is worth a listen. 2 comedians, Ray Peacock and Barry Dodds, discuss hauntings and strange rituals (think stupidly elaborate versions of Bloody Mary games). But that's not really the point. Barry is a bit thick and a believer in hauntings and the paranormal, Ray is an absolute skeptic, and most episodes quickly descend into pisstaking, which can be very funny. They also do short extra episodes where they look at the ghost hunting equipment Barry has which are worth a listen as well.
