Another day, another bunch of innocent people killed in the USA.  This time it's a small town in Texas, where a mass shooting has reportedly claimed 27 lives so far (including the shooter) and another 20-odd injured.

At least 27 people have died after a gunman opened fire at a church in Texas during Sunday services, police say.

The attack happened at the First Baptist Church in Sutherland Springs in Wilson County.

Police official Albert Gamez Jr confirmed the number of fatalities to CBS News.

The gunman, who is reported to have been killed in the aftermath, entered the church and opened fire at around 11:30 local time (17:30 GMT).

"The details are kind of sketchy but what I know right now, what they're telling me, like 27 deceased and over 20, 25 injured," Mr Gamez Jr said.

About 50 people usually attend the service, locals said.

"They're talking about the shooter is dead also," he added.

The gunman died after a brief car chase into nearby Guadalupe County slightly to the north, a Sherriff's Office deputy from that county told CNN.

But it is not clear if he was killed by police or killed himself, the spokesman said.

One witness, Carrie Matula, told NBC News: "We heard semi-automatic gunfire… we're only about 50 yards away from this church."

"This is a very small community, so everyone was very curious as to what was going on."

It'll be interesting to see what the President has to say about this one.  Seems like a huge incident but as yet it's unclear what the motive was or what colour / who the shooter was.

This story is getting weird.

If he was in fact chased by car and shot by a local resident is that also murder or it that stuff allowed in the US?

Texas officials just held a press conference about the deadliest mass shooting in the state, and revealed that a local resident fired back at the shooter who killed 26 people at a small town church ... and then gave chase before the gunman was found dead.

A rep for the Texas Department of Public Safety gave a blow-by-blow account of what went down Sunday morning in Sutherland Springs, TX where a gunman opened fire at the First Baptist Church.

He says the gunman, reportedly ID'd as Devin Kelley, was dressed in all black tactical gear when he opened fire on the church -- using an AR assault-style rifle -- from the outside and then continued inside. When he walked out again, a local resident engaged him with his own rifle, causing the gunman to flee.

The resident followed the gunman in his own vehicle, and the gunman was later found shot dead around a nearby county line ... where cops say they found more firearms in his car. It's unclear if the gunman suffered a self-inflicted gunshot wound, or if the resident shot and killed him.

As we reported ... the gunman left at least 26 people dead not including himself, as well as at least 20 others injured. The victims' ages range from 5 years old to 72.

This happened in a house of prayer ffs.

I don't think Paul understand's.  Less Tweeting and more praying is what Paul should be doing right now.

Logically they / someone is either not praying correctly and need to try harder or praying might not work at all. unless they all do it about the same thing and time ?

There has been other shootings in church as well in the past there.  So I conclude that there is absolutely zero chance of being saved in church by the church but an increasing chance you might get shot.

The American response to this is to pray more.  They will go on the TV on CNN and say "In a house of the Lord,  Lordy Lordy" or something similar,  this means nothing,  a 10 year old child can point at their little pet gerbils in their cage and say "That is a cage of Fitness, great food, great weather and quiet Meditation for everyone".  It does not make it so.

Behind the fact that people have guns or that one bloke ? Both equally mental  I think you would agree ?

It's all mental and anyone killing people using whatever tools they have is by definition mentally unsound, but mostly I was just commenting on the selective focus of the US media on which gun stories get the mental health treatment, and others the politicised call to close all the borders etc.

All these killings. It's clear what has to happen to stop these "bad dudes". They need to build a wall on the Texan border obviously. Thatll stop the crimes. Then one around Nevada. Then one around LA. Then one around chicago. Then one around all the police stations. Then around churches. Then one.....

And thus so it was written and "Escape from New York" came to pass.

With chandeliers and everything.
