Bit jealous of those watching the triathlon. Passes right by my old house in Boldmere.

Sutton Park is a Brilliant venue to hold these events.

Watched the race start on the TV from my house, could see the helicopter that was filming it out the window and then walked a few mins to the bottom of my road to see them cycle by.

Tried to get into the park but they wouldn't let people in without a ticket, I read it wasn't a ticket event so not sure what happened there.

I know absolutely nothing about gymnastics, but I didn't realise they do a team event where 1 minute you're holding your entire bodyweight on some rings 10ft in the air and then 5 minutes later you're flinging yourself around on a pommel horse, and 5 minutes after that you're sprinting into a handstand and flinging yourself into the air... I figured everyone specialised in 1 or 2 things and that was that, the team event was just the entire squad doing a combined score of the specialist guys.

Nope. Instead everyone does everything over a couple of hours and the medal is awarded headed on the combined score of the best 3 I think of each apparatus. And they use it as a qualifier for each event individually. I guess it makes sense but to me, firstly, it seems pretty clear that it's impossible to be really good at all of these things, and secondly I imagine that something like the rings will absolutely destroy your arms, at which point I don't think I'd fancy holding myself up on my hands while swinging my legs around at speed doing tricks...

There is. I've worked in that area for years. They don't lose money per se, the problem is the bases and that's why they are being shunted to another base as Scampton is sold for example.

The SAS make a ton of money training other worldwide special forces detachments. It's quite funny seeing them in and around Perry Barr at the moment 😂

I saw 3 black BMW X5s full of geezers parked in the B and Q carpark in Perry Barr earlier, I was hoping that was them, looked dodgy if not. 😂

Its one of those things that come Cw games / Olympics I really enjoy it, GB being decent at it obviously helps, watched a lot of whitlock over the years

The actual strength and skill is insane, you don't necessarily think of gymnastics as a manly event but these guys are as strong as an ox

I knew you had to be strong to do it, I mean something like the rings you'd have to be pure muscle to even attempt. And obviously there's tonnes of skill. But that's also why I thought you'd specialise in certain things - being built for the rings probably isn't so great for the bar.

Not something I'd ever have thought of doing as a kid. Even if I was capable of doing any of it (which I never was), my head would just be 'don'tfalldon'tfalldon'tfall' interspersed with 'you're going to break your neck. At best you're breaking a leg,l. Stop'.

My brain is rattled watching the triathlon being in a place I’ve visited so many times

I wandered down there to see it today. Pretty cool. I’ll be going down for the relay on Sunday too

There are certain areas that are ticketed so they don’t let you past certain points. If you tried the gate by Miller and Carter then that was where the grandstand was so probably why they wouldn’t let you in.

I went into the park through the town gate and wandered down to the running route. No tickets needed

There's something bizarre about watching world class athletes riding a bike along part of my commute and down streets I've drunkenly stumbled along in the past.

Part of the running route is part of my running route. Up quite a long hill with sort of 3 steps in it. Seeing them almost sprinting up it was very humbling when I usually have to stop to get my breath

They then go on to do the individual all round event and then each piece of equipment has its own event

I think qualification to the individual events might be linked to the scores in the team event but I'm not sure, if whitlock wants to do the individual pommel horse he has to get a good score on it in the team event - I might be completely wrong there

Whitlock on the pommel first up and setting a monster score followed by nervously watching everyone else after him was my highlight of the Tokyo games

Been in Brum all day today. Buzzing!

Saw the mechanical bull as it was pretty much outside my office. Excellent. Great atmosphere in town today (mate). Lots of armed police about as well, which makes you sober up a bit as you realise it must be a massive terrorist target.

England game the men's team gold in the gymnastics, with local boy Joe Fraser making 4 finals when only competing on 4 apparatus and carrying injuries, which included an apparently brilliant high bar routine.

Just saw a story on the main news at ten, people being interviewed in the city centre.

One Asian woman was talking and saying how great it was, how it was putting Birmingham on the map...

whilst her son aged about 12 stands next to her in a **** Liverpool shirt.
