Ill take that bet if you mean by 'far better' that he gets 22 points from 11 games which is whats needed for automatic promotion

I think it's a bit extreme to take "far better" as 120% better.

Any chance Sunderland will offer Bruce his old job back? Probably not. Damn it.

Well moyes has resigned tonight so there is a job there - I just hope if Bruce does fail that moyes isn't our next choice .

i think Bruce will need to be up amongst the top 6 come October or xia may well decide to act .

I have this vision:

insert Theresa May interview here.

"The manifesto has made clear that 19th place is no change from 6th place, or 13th for that matter!  NO CHANGE!"

Well the last sentence shows exactly the kind of exaggeration I'm on about.

Your head is truly in the sand DCJ.

It's not an exaggeration to say we were a shambles. You acknowledge the 5+ yrs of decline, but think just because we have a new owner and spent money that some how solves everything?

Dr T hasn't been here a yr yet. That's nothing. There was and still is so much wrong with the club. It's absolutely a factor in both RDM and Bruces reign so far.

Nothing about it is an exaggeration. They're facts. To say otherwise baffles me.

13th or 19th, both are crap given the resources available. I think RDM was a poor choice and I'm pleased he went but my personal opinion is that 19th exaggerated how bad he was - his games in charge represent a very small sample and in amongst the very average performances we also had more than our share of bad luck.

Its a sad commentary on Bruce that we are debating whether he is better than RDM - it's clear to me that he is better but the real question is - IS he good enough to win promotion next season.

For me the answer is sadly no - extrapolated across a full season his period in charge would bring 68 points or 10th place taken on this season. For the resources available that is a poor return. We can argue until the cows come home about what kind of situation he took over but the overwhelming consensus at the start of the season was that deadwood had been shifted and new blood bought in and that we were automatic promotion candidates

I've seen pretty much the same arguments rolled out when Sherwood and RDM were here and we are now going through the same pantomime with Bruce. He is more experienced than those two, plays much tighter, defensive tactics so his issues are not as stark but make no mistake if he stays (I've no doubt that he will by the way) we will not go up next season either

After listening to Wyness's interview clearly the board have been disappointed with this season's performances and those type of performances next season will not be tolerated. If Villa are not challenging for automatic promotion next season after 10-15 games then I'm certain that you will get your wish and Bruce will be replaced.

Lets hope it will not come to that though due to Villa doing well?

I'll be going to some pre-season games, If I see a continuation of SJ staying on his line, punching and kicking it long and high to Hogan, Baker hoofing because the MF offers no out-ball, Hutton marauding down the flank crossing to row Z caught in possesion or out of position, Hourihane and Lansbury deployed deep, not dominating games, sitting back showing too much unnecessary respect I will explode in rage.

If we hoof the ball non stop for the whole season but go up I won't care one bit. If we do it and don't get the results Bruce will be gone by October. Next year is all about getting promoted no matter how we do it so if you don't like the football judge him on the results before you start asking for his head. Hopefully though preseason is the catalyst for him getting us playing some decent stuff.

Watched Celtic in their last game of the season and was very impressed how they moved the ball with a squad not much better than Villa's. Rodgers has got them playing some lovely stuff and he is someone that should be under consideration if Bruce is sacked. It isn't rocket science to get the players to form little triangles on the pitch so there is always an out ball for the player in possession. It's basic progressive coaching and something Bruce needs to incorporate into Villa's play for next season. Another poster suggested getting someone in like Phelan to produce more pass and move football and if thats what it takes then it will be Bruce's best signing of the summer.

Really? You really think that Brendan Rodgers, manager of the team that convincingly won the SPL this season, manager of a team that will probably be playing Champions League football next season, would want to come to Villa? Do you really think he's a realistic target?

If you're after a manager who's "progressive" (and by progressive, I'm assuming from the context of your post that you mean someone who will play possession based football), surely Garry Monk is the most realistic (for transparancy, I will declare here that I would prefer to keep Bruce over getting either Monk and Rodgers in at this current time).

What possible reason could Rodgers have for coming to Villa?

There is far too much delusional talk in this thread.

I don't think to solved everything but again it was nothing like the shambles we witnessed the previous year.

From failed owner who wanted out,  whole fan base being negative, players not good enough for the level we were  at to New owner with ambition, positivity all around the club, positive summer window and signing top players for the level we were at.

Didn't solve everything but was completely different to the previous year.

And anyone who watched those 11 games would have seen we weren't a million miles away from being a very competitive championship team.

A chairman who will back him in the transfer market for a start. A club now (hopefully) on the up with a more than excellent chance of getting back into the PL and with the chairman's backing, staying there. Rafa stayed at Newcastle even though they were relegated.

I don't think its delusional at all to suggest him when he is managing a team in a one team league and how far do you think Celtic are going to get in the CL on their budget?

While you are at it why would Monk come?

Its not enough of a jump to walk out of a project well under way, and (based on last seasons showing) far more advanced towards premiership football!

so if 38 games hasnt told you that hoofing will mean Kodjia the only one getting double figures with Grealish coming in second with 5 worldies I hope our free signing Own Goal can get the other 30goals we'll need to win/draw for 80pts+

Maybe not the first hoof for me but definitely the first half will be enough to see whether things are going to be different.

Unreasonable ?

No - because the things people will be looking for are simple tangible things - as you've outlined earlier- getting the midfield up in support of front players, cutting out the keeper/Baker hoof, getting on the front foot, and of course playing at least 4 players in a truly positive role...

Simple  enough things to look for and if he is interested in being more creative he will have these things in place from the Off.

I don't get this. A new manager coming in in October? And expected to do what Bruce could not do?

It will be too late then.

It would appear that the die has been cast, so we have to hope that Bruce is up to the task, as the longer we are down in the Championship the more difficult it will be to get out of it.

Well Brighton was different to the usual 9 men behind the ball ethos.  Thus if you are basing it on a half it has already been sorted!
