Although not a great player JK is certainly decent at this level and since we have no other options this is a blow to our play off hopes.

We desperately need to bring in a couple of strikers in January if we are to have any hope of staying where we are.

Id say 1 will be perfectly fine.

And what if that player gets injured/suspended or doesn't play well? We are desperately light upfront.

We will most probably have Davis, Hogan, Gabby and RHM to step in...maybe even Kodjia if its late enough.

How many games have we won with them playing?

My point is that having Gabby, Hogan, Davis and RHM is not the same as having a quality proven striker. An actual goalscorer.

We need one to replace JK and another as a back up. January can't come soon enough.

I agree about the Kodjia replacement, but no more are needed.  We often play with 1 striker so 6 strikers on the books will be too much as it is.

As ive said in another thread, I don't believe we have that many 'strikers'. Forwards maybe, strikers no. Either way, we need more firepower. If David gets injured/suspended we literally have nobody at all to play up front and even he isn't a natural goalscorer.

I suppose having 8 strikers (or forwards) at the club would allow for injuries at least!

I'd say Kodjia is our only natural goalscorer. That's nowhere near enough for a club attempting to get promoted.

Its been ok so far.....even though he hasnt been scoring.

I have made my point.  We have too many strikers (or forwards) on the books as it is.  We need cover for our no.1 but thats it as far as im concerned.

If we can lose a couple then maybe, but personally id like to keep Davis in and around as much as possible to aid his development.

Let's agree to disagree. If you think we have too many natural goalscorers at the club then I believe you are wrong. We have one. Jonathan Kodjia.

Aren't you talking at crossed purposes?

Maybe it's fair to say that we only have one out-and-out goalscorer in the squad - certainly I can't see anyone but Kodjia getting close to 20 goals over a season - but it's also fair to point out that we have a lot of players who are designated as 'forwards' or 'strikers' on our books and we don't have an infinite budget for more players in the most expensive position on the pitch.

We'll probably try to get Ulloa on loan with an option to buy, or Crouch on loan (though I can't see that happening myself). And then cross our fingers and hope the Hogan we thought we'd bought shows up at some point (he's only out for another 3-4 weeks, ie he'll be back before Christmas, for whatever that's worth).

Aston Villa manager Steve Bruce is worried that striker Jonathan Kodjia may not play again this season following further ankle surgery.

The Ivory Coast striker broke down in training while on international duty after aggravating the injury he suffered at the end of last season.

And after seeing a specialist in France, the 28-year-old had a second operation on Friday.

"They've decided to operate, which is devastating news," Bruce told BBC WM.

"There is a possibility that he might get fit by the end of the season and that he might come back and play a cameo part, but I'm not going to be counting on that.

"He's going to be three or four months at least. It's the worst possible news for us.

"It's something to do with the bone density. I'm no doctor, but apparently his bone density isn't great. It hasn't healed as they'd have liked, so they're going to do a re-operation."

I know a lad who broke his ankle skiing. He had low bone density too. Four operations later he lost his foot. True story.

Hopefully codger heals well and comes back as good as ever.
