Britain to scale back on independent satellite system - FT

Quote

(Reuters) - British ministers are looking to scale back plans for a 5 billion pound ($6.18 billion) satellite navigation system which was introduced back in 2018 as an alternative to the European Union’s Galileo project, the Financial Times reported on Friday.

The ministers are exploring other options which include using OneWeb, the UK satellite operator that went bankrupt in March, the newspaper reported, citing sources.

OneWeb has pledged to move its satellite production from Florida in the United States to the UK if its management wins government support for its bid, according to the report on.ft.com/2zNaC1h.

Not sure I believe this satellite story.

As if our government would spaff money trying to invent something when alternatives already exist.

Incompetent or corrupt?

Both.

The answer he gives isn't necessarily a lie. "Customs infrastructure" has nothing to do with animal health and food safety, which is why they're building Border Inspection Posts.

If Sammy Wilson is too dumb to know that he's asking the wrong question, that's not Johnson's problem.

Sammy Wilson's talents do lie in international procurement, he's asking so he knows where to avoid. though I'm not sure why you'd use the Irish Border to import goods from South Africa or the Lebanon

And while it's bad form to quote oneself, I've realised that I'm almost certainly giving him too much credit.

Given his previous few years, it's unlikely that he's trumping Wilson with a relatively niche bit of trade nomenclature. And he's actually an imbecile who is just lying, doesn't understand what he is saying or both, and hoping nobody but a few hundred internet nerds notices. That tactic has won him two elections in the last year and a referendum after all.

Silly me.

Reports that a Russian intelligence unit paid Taliban fighters to kill coalition troops in Afghanistan are true, British security officials have confirmed to Sky News.

The news, which was first published on Friday evening by The New York Times, is "on the nose" according to a source briefed on the matter.

"This is another example of the moral vacuum the GRU (an arm of Russia's military intelligence agency) operate in," Sky News has been told.

"Offering rewards to attack soldiers who are trying to bring peace to a nation is repugnant."

No, clearly not. We're in the world situation where Russia, the USA and China are all malignly manipulating, interfering, scheming and so on to upend the stability of places and systems for their own interests (or at least those of the leaders of those nations). The actual effect is wholly counterproductive, when looked at collectively. The USA has come off badly as a result of Trump's disastrous actions. China is seeing a turn against the trade it needs and Russia is struggling too.

Brexit was pushed by both Putin and Trump as it weakens both Europe and the UK. Little British (English) grifters like Farage, Banks,  Gove and chancers like Johnson have willingly assisted and enabled the likes of the US and Russia in their dirty deeds.
