Hopefully his second loss of the year is enough to end his career in politics. From trying to be mayor of the capital to having no job at all. Tough luck, you sleazy, self-serving, divisive word removed.

23,000 majority over turned, ouch.

The size of the previous majority was to do with the Lib Dem collapse.  The area has always been a Lib Dem stronghold, including before the current constituency boundaries were drawn up.  It's the 23,000 Tory majority that stands out as completely unrepresentative over the last few decades.

Add to that the Brexit factor, some other parties not standing, and the cynical nature of his appearing to stand up to the Tory party while having an agreement with them that he would rejoin the ranks after his little show of "principle" and in return they would not oppose him and also supply him with lots of people on the ground, and it's no surprise he lost.

I suspect he will manage to pay the bills.

I didn't know that background so thanks.

Must have still hurt though, you don't do what he did and expect to have your arse handed to you on your silver spoon.

In a story about homelessness in Birmingham, here, the following sentence may be worth highlighting:

As a society, we are allowing a situation to exist where our government has cut back funding for affordable housing and support to the point where we recognise we don't provide for people, and the duty of care has been reduced to looking for the corpses that are the predictable consequence of this policy.  Meanwhile the richest see their wealth inflate to previously unknown levels.

There is no political, economic, or moral justification for allowing this to happen.  It is entirely avoidable, and it is a matter of political choice.

Let's make a different choice.

this week I've been working at night as it's easier for the client.i'm banned from driving(speeding:bang:),so I've been using public transport which means I've been in the city centre all week at night/early morning.seeing all the people sleeping rough in doorways shocked me as I never realised there were so many.disgraceful that a country with our resources has this many homeless.

Everyone knows this happens with a Tory government yet still vote for them.

And all the left want to do is attack the labour leader and take away the best chance of kicking them out because of a crap word that means nothing but is repeated parrot fashion ad infinitum.

We have too many I'm all Jacks and stuff anyone less fortunate merchants in this country. Or if not that then we have too many who think 'it is all the immigrants fault'

As peterms said above we as a society are allowing this to happen and shame on many of us for that.

Tories....care....sorry, you've lost me

That's not quite fair,

they care vehemently about helping their wealthy buddies (and themselves) keeping as much as their accumulated wealth as they can, they care about waging a propaganda war on the poor, the sick and the disabled, they care about giving as much of the public's money they can to their chums in cheap sell offs of national assets, or through no risk outsourcing, or just making political choices that will allow their chums (and themselves) to accumulate some easy money as they take advantage of the opportunities they create for the purpose of making a quick buck.

They just don't care about causing any suffering to the majority of the population, the truth, facts, justice, fairness, experts considered opinions, or spending public money on decent services for the public, oh they aslo don't care for exposing and dealing with institutionalised pedophilia within the establishment

Now that's a fairer more accurate picture of the party with the ingrained sense of entitlement

I've said it before, for any one that can't afford to pay for housing, health care or schooling outright, which is most of us, why would you ever vote Tory.

They are not helping me pay off my mortgage, are not improving the health service I may require and want to sell off the public schools that my kids may use to businesses.

Alongside all the other services, police force, fire department, railways, roads etc that they under fund, they are a parasite party who don't represent most of the country. And yet in our psyche they seem to fit British identity.

Had a conversation with a colleague a while ago, who was blaming labour for all of the countries wrongs. After a quick google, since World War Two the there has been more time under a Tory government than Labour.

I should vote Conservative because I'm sure I'm better off under a neoliberalist government than socialist. I do alright so I shouldn't want socialism. But I couldn't live with myself if I was a Tory.

My wife works for the NHS and voted Conservative at the last election. Her reasoning? She didn't think any of the others had any chance so just voted Tory to vote rather than not.

I stop short of calling her **** stupid as I'd be in the doghouse but she knows I think it.
