What would be the point of loaning lol (for Spurs)

I don't know.....I don't write that shit....Some 'sports journalist' gets paid to make that shit up

We paid 80% of Bents wages whilst he was at Derby

Andy gray warning Tim not to sign adebayor. Got to agree about commitment can't see him being arsed on a cold wet December game. If we were to sign him fir me cover for Rudy and ayew

I thought we played Stoke in October?

Where was Andy Gray when we needed warning against Signing Bent.?

We would have gone down if it wasn't fir Darren bents goals that season. When we signed I can't remember the last time there was a buzz around this place for such a marquee signing

I'm fine if he comes, however my real hope is that sherwood is just playing with Levy.

Making Levy think he is getting £100k a week off his books, only for us to either walk away or get him for a reduced amount later in the window.

Will not help their recruitment plans.

Be nice to see Tim play Levy....

Ive finally found some silver lining to this one. I now can't wait for him to get subbed on in a game we're losing, huddle the entire team around him as he enters the field to tell them all we've had to bring him on to save the game because they are all so shit. ;)

I think there's worry about morale in the camp when paying a player 100k a week. A loan fee to cover the wages and the public knowledge that villa can only afford 40k a week will put us in a better bartering position when it comes to new contracts for the likes of Clark.

Surely better for Levy too? Cause it's immediate money in the bank.

100k a week until the end of June is what? £4.7m? (£4.3m come deadline day). That's still a pretty hefty gamble on our part for where we are right now. It would also absolutely smash our pay structure. Even if they're not asking for a fee (and come on people its Levy - he's asking for a fee), I still think it would be a monumental moment for the club. However of course in the real world top players get 100k+ a week.

If I was Lerner though and Tim managed to get rid of Nzogbia and his £2m+ of wages I'd give him a bonus of £2.5m and let him do whatever he wants

If we hadn't signed gestede I think we'd be in a much worse position at the negotiating table. As it is we have 5 strikers, could do with ade but it won't be the end of the world if we don't get him, hopefully this will force Levy's hand. Was talking to a spuds fan about who he'd pick over ade and berba. He said ade's main problem was focus, berba - motivation, but if he had to have one it would be the Bulgarian.

I agree, we actually bought two strikers already and effectively have a new signing in a fit Kozak. Some parts of the media would have you believe that Adebayor was Benteke's replacement but that is not the case. I think he is experienced cover whilst we bedded down a young striker. Personally I would still take him and I think we will end up with him.

The bit I am enjoying is for once Levy does not hold all the cards as we have plenty of striking options and we could take Berbatov on a free as an alternative. The delay will be us playing hardball.

The deal will cost us around £5million however its dressed up. We would have to contribute at least half towards his wages and a fee of around £2.5 million. if we offered to pay his wages in full to get him off Spurs books, they would probably snap our hands off, other than that, a fee would have to be paid. My guess is that we're at least £1million apart and we are in a much stronger negotiating position than Spurs are.

For those suggesting it is a gamble, I would ask what striker wouldn't be? Austin performed for a season but to me, he represents a bigger gamble, given the financial package that would be involved. There is no guarantee of any signing working out and there have been some real clangers over the years. For me, at around £5million, Adebayor would give us 12 months breathing space to see how Gestede pans out and also to ensure this years kitty is invested elsewhere within the team. If we need a striker in 12 months then we will be in a position to buy one.

Adebayor would represent insurance to me. I'd ideally like Gestede to work for us but if he struggled, Adebayor would be great back up. Vice versa, if we could get Adebayor to reproduce the form he showed under Sherwood then Gestede could be cover in case Adebayor lost interest half way through. The thought of playing them both in a 4-4-2 or a 4-4-1-1

is also intriguing
