Paul Lambert

Sign him up for a few more years. This club has lacked consistency in terms of management. All you have to do is look at Fergusons first few seasons at Man Utd, they were inconsistent for a few years and started to level out.

Moyes was the same at Everton, it took him a few seasons to settle and get the squad he wanted.

Time and time again, having a bit of consistency in management seems to serve most teams well. The last thing we need is to be getting rid of Lambert and replacing him with someone who's going to just start from scratch again. Pointless.

No way does Lambert deserve a contract extension. Being Lerner's lacky gimp is not a reason for a new contract and Lerner should not lumber any new owner with this millstone!

So, let's say the end of the season brings no new ownership. Lerner is still in charge and Lamberts contract is running out, you'd rather let it run out and go on the hunt for a replacement that would more than likely be someone like Allerdyce, Bruce, Pulis etc than hold on to a manager who is doing alright considering the circumstances?

Anyone who says the circumstances doesn't excuse the poor form at times and the inconsistency needs to wise up. The club spent less than any of the recently promoted teams this summer and is performing well above expectations, I mean WELL above expectations. It's a long season but a great start that should help us avoid a relegation battle this year.

To think of getting rid of Lambert after 3 years of digging is the bargain bin, battling inconsistency, young players not being able to recover from defeats and injuries. There's no other manager that I can think of that would do any better in the same circumstances. There really isn't.

So if in May 2015 we finish on 37 points having survived relegation by the skin of our teeth again. We're playing dull boring football still, Benteke, Vlaar and Delph all want out and Tonev's arrived back after a season on the bench in the porridge league looking for first team football.

Above all there's a shiny new billionnarie paying Lerner £100m for the club and he has a new shiny manager waiting in the wings? What then? Do we stick with the footballing Anti-Christ?

The above is as much conjecture as your little story?

But hey if Lerner is still here next year and for the foreseeable why not keep Lambert as his managerial abilities match Lerner's ambition!

What did the team cost the last day 15m? And people want him out?

YES!

I find it amazing that people forget so quickly how dire the football has been over the past 2 seasons with him in charge?

I find it pathetic that people can't see the budget constraints he's been working under and can't appreciate the fact that the strikers he spent decent money on were both out for the majority of the second half of last season and we were left with a thread bare squad and because of our decent results earlier in the season we still managed to stay up but don't give any credit for the fact that he managed to get results with a crap squad.

Not to mention going to Anfield and getting something three times in a row.

Why do we get double points there or something?

And did you reallyy just say Helenius was a good signing? LOL!

2nd in the league unbeaten and conceded only one goal.

At least show a bit of cheer -.-

Funny that I find it pathetic when people have to come up with the same old excuses to justify dull, passionless drivell as football or say well we beat ManCity but not mention the two thrashings by Fulham!

Anyway we are both entitled to our own opinions so let's leave at that eh?

Just one last thing, when does 'the same old excuses' become an actual fact and a reason as to why things went the way they did?  Or is it not acceptable to have reasons(excuses in your case) as to why things happen at our football club?

I think pretty much everyone on here has been disappointed with results and performances in the past two years, that's a given.

Those seasons have gone now, there is no changing the past and we can't have the time back.

So the question is, what does he need to do to earn your support (or at least a stay of execution) now and going forwards?

I'm 'pro Lambert' in the sense that I do not believe he should have been sacked in the summer, but I also think he could be doing better and I expect to see an improvement in results and performances this season. So far he is delivering that.

Had we have started with four losses and played like a pub team, my patience would be wearing thin in the extreme by now, but we haven't and therefore it isn't.

So what does he need to do in the short/medium/long term to get Delboy back on side or is it just a case of you wanting him gone because of past results no matter what the future brings?

Eg if we finish 10th with a decent GD and a better home record, would you then give him a chance IF new owners came in, or would you still want him gone because the two seasons before that were shite?

Where is the tipping point?

I don't think we should give him a new contract based on four consecutive good games, despite us looking much better. We had much more than four consecutive terrible games at the end of last season.

Let's see how we're doing in early December and if things are still ticking along nicely then sign him up for another 2-3 years. I do like Lambert but four games just isn't long enough for him to prove he's genuinely turned it around here.

Think we need to wait and see how things look come January. For the first time PL has a good squad. I always said he should get three summer windows to build his squad. Although that stance was tested several times over the last two years.

As good as the league results have been, I still have reservations about his ability, the league cup game reinforced that.

Our smash  and grab tactics will be enough to keep us in the league, hopefully, but his teams persistently show a complete lack of ability to break down a team that won't come at us and provide opportunities to counter attack, we need to be able to get results against teams that come to Villa Park and sit back, and we're going to struggle to reach comfortable midtable positions until we can do that.

I love how that, people haven't got a lot to beat Lambert with regarding recent results so they resort to entirely hypothetical situations.

Bunnski has hit the nail on the head. It is also amazing that people can't understand that our wage budget had been crippling us so Lambert was forced to go after players who would not demand top wages pretty much every player he signed for the club was a gamble. Yet clubs who have got promoted since Lambert has been here, the Swanseas, Southamptons etc have had squads on Championship wages and been able to utilise the increased tv revenue far better than we could, thus improving their squads at an alarming rate. Yet look at those clubs I've mentioned Swansea paid twice as much for Bony as we did Benteke, Southampton paid almost 3 times as much for Lovren as we did Vlaar. Not to mention what he has done to the players he inherited Guzan was off to the Championship before he arrived, if you had said Delph would be starting centre mid for England 2 years ago, you would have been laughed off the forums. He's by no means perfect but if you take a step back and look at the league as a whole and the money that is being thrown around it's very tough to criticise Lambert.

27 points from 34 games would most definitely be sackable. However that's highly unlikely to happen at this point. I think, from here, if we were to finish with less than 40 I'd probably be thinking come the end of the season that it might be time for a new manager, the caveat being that if we manage such a low total, but somehow still look as well drilled and organized as we do now (I'm talking serious, serious bad luck), then perhaps I'd be happy for him to stay.

I don't really get your logic though, we've got 10 points from 4 games and have 34 games left to play, and you're talking about getting less points than the last 3 years?

It's a big ole club to manage and there are so many aspects to it.

I think lambert had too many balls in the air....Roy Keane looks like the much needed help he has been craving.

It's not to say the last 2 years results have been ok....far from it....but we may have discovered an essential bit of support that PL needed.

We will see.
