They will pay the price for not bringing Cesc back.

The last thing they need is more competition in midfield. Its at the back and up front where they are weak.

He's world class and would be the main man. He wouldn't be 'competition' he'd be the first name on the teamsheet.

They already have world class midfield players in Ramsey and Ozil. Anyway midfield is their strong area. They created an abundance of chances today.

Alexis must be wondering what he did in a previous life from going from Barca with Messi and Neymar to setting up chances for Sanogo to fall over the ball. That mug is probably worse than Bendtner which is saying something, Gabby is better than him.

its not the setting up chances that i spotted, it was the work rate and high pressing which he would have played at barca and with chile, seen him a couple of times chasing round the centre backs like a dog with 2 dicks while the rest of the team are 20m behind him watching him do it...

i think he needs to nail a position, this free role, dropping deep turning up here and there does him no favours, if wenger sees him a striker then stick him up there and leave him up there, if welbeck himself, alot like rooney IMO, sees himself as a striker who drops deep to get the ball, turns up on the left and the right to get involved then he will continue looking shite

You could say it is high, but then you would be wrong. It certainly isn't crazy. I am not a huge fan of Danny Welbeck due to his lack of killer instinct in front of goal, but he has been playing second-fiddle to Van Persie and Rooney. These guys are not the easiest guys to compete with and Welbeck has always been utilized as an enabler for these boys when playing.

There are a few factors here: Welbeck is 23 years old and potentially has 10 years left in him, if he was 29 and at the same level he would not go for 16M. You easily pay for age, as you have to judge his potential ability and no-one can deny that he has lots of it. He has played over 100 league games for United (and Sunderland) - as well as 26 games for England with 8 goals to his name.

This is 2014, not 1994. 16M is not a huge sum of money for a young player already with lots of experience.
