What do you drive?

Just bought an Aygo. Not flashy or anything but practical for my needs (~200 miles a week, just me)

5 doors, touch screen multimedia system, alloys, reversing camera, bluetooth etc, tax exempt and free insurance for a year for a 64 plate. £194 a month. Suits me down to a T and it looks pretty good for an Aygo.

I like the X figure on the front, makes the car sporty and aggressive looking.

If it has a matress in the back I'm going to suspect you're a serial killer.

If it has a mattress in the back I suspect a few VTers may explode

What if it also had a dog guard.............................................?  :o

  • 2 weeks later...

I've been driving a Hyundai for a few days. A Focus sized, 6 speed manual, diesel that I've just realised I don't know the name of.

It was perfectly ok - I had one 3 years ago that was horrible, so perfectly average is a great leap  forward.

The two main points I'd make: A relatively minor one, how much money is saved by having electric windows that are auto down only, not auto up? I'm sure it's sold as a safety feature, but my usual car has auto up that stops if there's a resistance so you can't get your head stuck. It's a major hassle to try and drag race away from toll booths and car parks whilst keeping a finger hooked around the window button. Kind of trivial, but really got to me.

Second point, why in all that is **** holy do we still have manual gearboxes? I mean, it's just a crap idea. Hand brake, clutch point, 3rd gear, no put it in 4th, no 3rd is better, ooh now I'm stopping in traffic, now I'm starting again. Seriously, all that changing gear and never ever quite being in the right one.

Oh yeah, one more, thought it was interesting that they had illuminated buttons for the i-pod interface and the sporty steering option and the CD player - but not for the lights? Get in the car in the dark and you can do absolutely everything except find the **** light switch.

I should have taken more pictures, especially of the Focus ST, Escort Mexico. There was a fair bit to see.

One man asked a salesman "When will this one be for sale?" "This one is actually being crushed", it's still a prototype but very nice.

They had a Prefect and an Escort Esquire there, Cosworth Rally car, Mk1 Fiesta with some kind of Orange and Black Houndstooth patterned seats, a 50's American Ford Galaxy, probably the longest car I've ever seen, half of it was just the boot with the electric convertible roof folded up in it. I was parked between a 50's F100 truck and a Triumph TR7 rally car.

Turnbull, if you're interested

Talking of Mk1 Fiestas, here's my sons Mk1 with a home built 1,7 X Flow going up Prescott Hill Climb. It also ran 15 secs at Santa Pod too, but was only producing 110 BHP at the wheels, so now he's sold that motor and bought another X Flow with 167 BHP and mated it to a proper 4 speed box with an LSD (the old box was a 3+E off the original 1.1 motor).

Can't wait to be sitting in the passenger seat when he takes it up the strip next year, low 13s this time hopefully.

Great pics BTW, I have some of one or two of those cars taken at Ford Fair.

I've told my dealer if he gets a used mustang boss 302 or Shelby gt 500 in at a 13 or 14 to give me a shout, I love my truck, but damn I miss a massive smile being put on my face when popping out to the shops.

So....I've got a new job which will involve a commute by train. We will therefore only need to be a one car family.

The plan is both the Freelander (lovely car but expensive and gassy as ****) and the A1 (wonderful wonderful little car but too **** small for a family of four) will both be going.

That leaves me with about £25k to play with... I will never own a people carrier but I'd like the suggestions from the VT community. Its got to be reasonably efficient and ideally an estate...

GO!!
