  1. Hiding things in the house for the other half. She tells me she’s very observant so I sneak things in to see if she notices (kw). After a recent trip, I printed off all the selfies she made must take onto little one inch square magnets. Anything and everything that a magnet will stick to had a tiny photo of me and her stuck to it. It made me laugh, it made her sigh. Still took her five weeks to find them all and she has no idea of she’s got them all or not. Oh and her carefully curated Christmas tree also has some new ornaments. One of a mooning Santa and one a cat licking his bum. I’m a 50 year old man who hides nonsense around the house for nothing but my own amusement.
  2. Actress Marisa Pavan. Quite the looker back in the day.
  3. That's the one I was trying to get to last night. Knew someone would manage it.
  4. Saw this Friday with her indoors and two friends. I don’t think I’ve seen a film that divided opinion so much. I loved it, she liked it but felt it had too many gaps and the other two were didn’t like and hate. I initially presumed their negative opinions were just because it wasn’t their kind of film but they’re smart people who understand film and their objections were understandable, even if I didn’t share them. We had a spirited debate about it but it was a really good reminder that art isn’t always about good or bad, it’s about perception, personal experience, individual taste and a whole bunch of other factors.
  5. An acquaintance who works at St Thomas was saying shortly afterwards that he had it but was never seriously poorly or in any danger and felt surprised that they were seemingly pushing the "Brave Boris" line because they thought it played well. Then again, he also likened Boris being in hospital to hiding in a fridge so who knows?
  6. Can’t get anything right but they somehow manage to get a video pulled from twitter within minutes. I can’t help but feel their focussing on the wrong things.
  7. The only one that really annoys me is Tyler’s “AND IT’S LIVE!”
  8. Had one before covid. An old Polish woman. She was very nice, spoke no English but we used to have very funny conversations where we both spoke our own language and did lots of sign language. She was rubbish at actually cleaning though and on days I wasn’t home, I was almost certain she’d arrive, spend three minutes cleaning and then disappear with the money. Tried a few more since but they were oddballs so I got a roomba instead.
  9. After a period of ill health a couple of years ago, I’ve knuckled down a bit this year and have never felt better. Two stone down (a third of my target), working out two or three times a week and I’m finally enjoying it. The biggest realisation was that I wasn’t going to lose weight in the gym, I’d lose it in the kitchen. I get meals and snacks from muscle foods and it’s really started to work. You basically choose meal types working to a calorie limit per day. It’s protein heavy but crucially (for me) low in fat and sugar. The snacks are good enough that I’m able to con my brain into thinking I’m having treats. 50 years old and I’m in the best shape for probably 20 years. Still a ways to go yet and I don’t completely deprive myself of the the occasional meal out (1 treat meal per week but still trying to not go too mad). It all feels like good reward for not very much effort so far. Suspect the rest of the weight will take a long while to shift but I’m going to try and push on to achieve it.
  10. Any recommendations down the bottom end of the M42? The MiL is over from the states and we want to take her somewhere nice for dinner that also has a proper British pub feel. We normally end up in the Barnt Green Inn. Hoping to find something similar but a bit less corporate.
  11. The children now love luxury; they have bad manners; contempt for authority; they show disrespect for elders and love chatter in place of exercise. Children are now tyrants, not the servants of their households. They no longer rise when elders enter the room. They contradict their parents, chatter before company, gobble up dainties at the table, cross their legs, and tyrannise their teachers. Socrates C.490BC
  12. Oh no. Not on the southern states. Anything can be a casserole if they say it's a casserole. I can't get her to define what makes it so, it just is. There's two dishes, both contain a starch and some veggies. One is most definitely a casserole, the other a "dressin". I've given up trying to make sense of it.
  13. And everything apart from the turkey is called a casserole or a "dressin'". I love it and can't wait. My missus has already planned the menu and I've still a few weeks to wait so I've encouraged her to start a few "test-runs" of some of the items.
  14. Maybe he can ask ‘arry if Rosie can help him with the computer.
  15. I wonder if Steve will busy himself picking fights with people who criticise his boy online now.
  16. Cheap Panini have just started on the current squad. It’s as terrifying as it is compelling. I’ll let you all trawl through the twits and find your favourite.
  17. Danny Murphy outdoing himself on MOTD tonight.
