  1. this might sound obvious but anyone still trying for tickets on the official site, once you are on the stadium plan do NOT press the back button. if you see the error message ''error coming soon'' close this window and just keep on refreshing the stadium plan page. there are still the odd single tickets coming up. you just have to be quick and lucky. if you press back you will go back to the main tickets page and find it more difficult or nigh on impossible to get back in. this is how i got mine, albeit in the same section but not together. keep on trying for last years play off final i got mine the day after the sold out signs went up, so keep trying even tomorrow morning and beyond good luck
  2. Since the halcyon days I've been waiting for almost 40 years so i suppose another 10 is neither here or there. The only problem i have with it is i hope i will still be around to see it !!!!!
  3. With this point alone, i think Jack will be gone come next season regardless of our status. How can we pay or compete with clubs offering 200k per week???
  4. Lots of interesting stuff on this website. Well worth a look. It lists every Villa home and away kit throughout our history. Home kits link below http://www.historicalkits.co.uk/Aston_Villa/Aston_Villa.htm Away kits link below http://www.historicalkits.co.uk/Aston_Villa/Aston_Villa-change-kits.html credit @Kuwabatake Sanjuro from a previous post. Home kits Our first kit - 1874 - 1877 First one with the rampant Lion on - 1878 - 1879 First Claret kit - 1880 - 1882 Fist Claret & Blue kit - 1887 - 1890 The team's first colours were described as "scarlet and royal blue stripes" (i.e. hoops - vertical stripes did not appear until the 1880s). The following season they wore black and white tops and in 1878 they purchased a set of black shirts emblazoned with the Scottish lion rampant. William McGregor actually went to Scotland to purchase the lion motifs and they were subsequently sewn on by the sister of the club secretary (ref: The Aston Villa Chronicles). The following season jerseys replaced the original shirts but the lion motif faded badly in the laundry. Charles S Johnstone, an influential player, interviewed late in life said, "Our lion had no chance with the washing lady! He became pale and anaemic so Mac (William McGregor) was deputed to send to Scotland for thirteen lions on shields proper, which could be attached and detached at will....When they were duly attached you could hardly see the man for the lion - we were each as self-conscious as a bride in a wedding dress. We went on the field but the gorgeous lion got us down. We had a most awful whacking and the lion was relegated to the club notepaper and flags." Away / Change kits 1874 - 1888 Unknown 1888 - 1899 needs corroboration 1905 - 1906 In their early years Villa changed their colours frequently, with the old sets being passed on to the 2nd and 3rd XIs so it is possible that when colours clashed the team would play in their older shirts. From 1892 the Football League required home teams to keep a set of white shirts for use in the event of a colour clash. At the turn of the century light blue jerseys were used with a distinctive claret band at the neck, similar to Villa's regular first choice tops of the period. During the 20s and 30s, Villa's white change shirts were enlivened with claret and blue collars similar to those worn on their first choice tops and even a pair of horizontal bands. Like the first choice jerseys, these were made of ribbed wool with large collars of an unusual design. Originally these were laced at the neck with rather fetching tassles but these were usually discarded and the neckline became stretched out of shape.
  5. I posted in the Premier League thread about the amount of empty seats at last nights game and the lack of interest. Interestingly i have searched and searched and cannot find what the official attendance was. I'm intrigued to see what it was in relation to the capacity of 55k.
  6. I go to Wetherspoons most mornings for a coffee. Theres lots a people having a breakfast, nowt wrong with that, but the amount of noise people make with there knife and fork on the plate is mental. its like a full blown section of the percussion section in a bad orchestra! !!!! Drives me mad.
  7. For those who don't want to listen to the podcast Ashley Preece has posted the outline of what he said in a series of tweets. The biggest thing i take out of this is paying the top players the top wages, ie; assuming we stay up, paying Jack enough to keep him out of the clutches of the so called big boys !!!
  8. From what i have watched i'm not sure what to make of West Ham and how bad/good they are and do they have the capabilities to get out of the relegation scrap. Man City have been all over them, but then again they are like that against most sides, especially at home.
  9. So many empty seats (m'lord) at Man City. I guess the ''new'' fans are starting to get fed up already given they are miles behind Liverpool and have a Champions League ban coming up.
  10. Who’s this “new signing” we are having for the last 8 games or so? Is he any good??
  11. Bump With the Cheltenham Festival now 3 weeks away, has anyone got any anti post fancies they are punting on? I quite fancy putting two or three Lucky 15 bets on. I like the races but have not really had a look at runners etc this jumps season so open to the advice from our VT betting experts.
  12. oh, lets not forget that Willian got booked for diving when it was a clear foul. VAR not used to check it. It was an obvious mistake from the ref yet its not checked. Laughable, he gets fouled and get a yellow. more nonsense
  13. slide rule football again !!! where is Giroud trying to seek an advantage and now we have Gary Neville trying to defend it. He says he just does not get the problem with offside. If its off its off. I get that however when its like some of the goals being disallowed its utter tosh. players are not trying to seek an advantage with the offside. its garbage
  14. His overall contribution is poor and his defensive qualities are zero. Yet i like him, but We are in a relegation scrap and he is a luxury that needs to be sacrificed. For the final 12 games we need a lot more than he offers and i would not play any wingers in the last 12 games. We need scrappers, players who can roll their sleeves up and dig in and he is not one of them.
  15. TRO, Most of your posts are well balanced and insightful and we can all agree on the deficiencies of our defence. You are right, we will not score our way out of it. Clean sheets are the key and the basis to a platform on, however, unless there is a change in strategy and our approach it will not happen. It was nailed on yesterday that we would not keep a clean sheet, even if we would have gone 2 up like we should have done. The evidence is there to see this season. 3 Clean sheets all season. (Everton, West Ham and Norwich). The only team NOT to keep a clean sheet away from home. I think the only way we have a chance of keeping a clean sheet is a change in strategy and tactics. Go defensive, swamp the midfield (no wingers) and play 5,4,1 formation making it very tight. If we keep playing the same formation with the same tactics we will keep getting the same results and i'm afraid it's back to the Championship. The big question is, has the manager got the kahunas to do it and have the coaching staff got the nouse to deliver it. Sadly, from what i have seen i seriously doubt it.
  16. @Designer1 yes, it’s about opinions. It was just too slow for me. Not my cup of tea. Glad you enjoyed it though.
  17. Read some decent reviews in Saturdays press about Horse Girl on Netflix so I gave it a go. Wasted an hour of my life before I switched off. Pure dung!!!!!!
  18. if you aint going to tell me what it's about then it's meh
  19. Don't feel sorry for him. He cost us a point, simple as that. Dont feel sorry for him because some day or another he'll be plying his trade somewhere else and wont give two hoots about us. It's football basics. The time of the game, the position he's in by the half way line. Just clear it, just hoof it where ever. It's really that simple. The legend that is Paul McGrath was so good because he did the basics so well. Average player among many and thats why we are where we are.
  20. I dont know who the 11 would be but i know it should NOT include at least the following and In no particular order Hause Drinkwater El Ghazi Trezeguet Hourihane Konsa Nakamba Taylor Elmohamady Quite simply not good enough and not up to the standard required
  21. I’m out of this thread to slit my wrists.... all I’ve read is we’ve got no chance and we’re going to get hammered!!!! Now that may happen it may not but ff i woke up this morning in a good optimistic mood now I’m depressed thanks a bunch lads
  22. Saw this picture on twitter..... i think circa 70's/80's
  23. Not the first and it wont be the last football has turned into slide rule precision measurement in situations like this, where is the attacking player seeking to gain an advantage and where is the obvious error from the officials? Its mind boggling and silly
