Things that piss you off that shouldn't

This Roy Hodgson thing is further proof, if proof were needed, that the media have nothing else better to do than invent non-starter stories and that political correctness is an absolute depraved joke that I am beginning to get hacked off about.

I've never liked Stewart Lee. I find him pretentious. But I'm inclined to agree with him there and I am willing to admit, I've never thought of it in that sense.

However, the "price someone pays" for an incidental remark isn't fair either.

The phrase, "I couldn't give a monkeys" is an acceptable phrase to suggest you don't care - up where I am from.

A referee said that to a black Chelsea player last year when he was arguing with him and it nearly cost him his career.

Racism, sexism and homophobia is abhorrent in my book and always will be. But we need to be careful that we don't crucify people for innocuous comments wherein they simply haven't considered the implications of what they have said.

The difficulty is where phrases that had a clear racist/sexist/homophobic connotation when they first entered in use are used freely in modern society where that connotation is not associated in common parlance.

Ignorance is no excuse. People should consider connotations and implications before they say something. It's on them if they don't, and it's not 'political correctness gone mad'.

I agree. You've made a salient and cogent point.

I've never had a problem being diplomatic and considerate. But I can see how frustrating it must be when you are hung out to dry by a comment that you had no intention of offending somebody with.

Just found out that the other young guy in the office is finishing tomorrow, now the thing is, I checked and he started on April 19th 2010, and Saturday would be exactly 3.5 years since he started, I assume he was on the same trainee accountant contract as me, which is also 3.5 years. It would appear that he isn't getting his contract renewed at all and I feel kind of bad for him, I know he failed a few exams but my boss is so sound, (hence my constantly on VT) honestly just the nicest man, I'm just kind of shocked that he hasn't kept him on especially when the next 4 weeks we take in about 40% of our work for the entire year.

Money.

Unfortunately it makes decisions for most people these days.

I know, I mean he does seem a small bit ineffectual, but I kind of feel like I've come in and stood on him a bit, as I've really progressed and got some good solid experience, along with 3 pay increases while he's still pretty much at where he was when he started.

In an office you will often have appraisals, reviews, annual assessments etc., the reality is, your salary and your job security are the two clues you get that negate the need for all those reviews etc..

As I'm currently in Toysrus shopping for said items

Party bags for kids birthdays ... Call me old fashioned but when I was a kid the idea of a birthday party was that kids bought you a present

Now you have to give the kids that come to you sons party a poxy party bag with stuff in it ,

Or is it a reward for not trashing your house ?
