DJ_Villain
I find all this talk of loyalty very hypocritical. Fans only want loyalty from good players. Would we show loyalty to Benteke if he was shit? No we'd want him gone and be glad like with other ex players. Would we care if he wanted to leave after 1 year if he was shit? No. If he was shit he wouldn't have put in a transfer request one year into a 4 year contract would he so what's your point? That he was the one that signed the contract that we gave to him??? He agreed to our terms... Not visa-versa....

Belgian guy
Does nobody care that this man actually ensured we are still a premier league team? Talk of hoping he gets injured and ends his career may be in jest but boy is it crude. He would be crazy to want to stay IMO. My words werent in jest whatsoever... F**k him sideways... If he signs a contract, he should honour it... If we HAD be relegated and he had a release clause, BY ALL MEANS, we wouldnt have a leg to stand on and he could go.... BUT We weren't and he didnt... P3te
I think to figure out a reasonable fee, several things have to be taken into consideration - after all, a transfer fee is simply compensation. Firstly, there's what he's cost us so far (estd 20k pw * 44 plus transfer fee, said to be between £5-7m, total: £7.88m), then there's additional costs associated which include disruption to running the company, cost of identifying a replacement, fee of signing a replacement, signing on fee for the replacement, risk involved in signing a replacement, wages of the replacement and the value of the player to the club. One could argue that Benteke's value to Villa last season was in the region of 40-50% of the money we'll receive this year for staying in the league against the money we'd have gotten in parachute payments and regular income had we gone down. Then there's the gate receipts of staying up vs. going down, and lost match day income from losing your star player. IIRC parachute payments are £12m a season, compared to the £60m (I think) that every PL side will get at the end of this season. So £48m difference/2 = £24m - the player's value to us last year on the pitch. Gates had we been relegated would probably have been down a bit, but not a huge amount given we don't sell out each match. Maybe £3-4m over the season in match day revenue? A replacement is always a risk, as there's no such thing as a like for like in football, but the more you pay the more perceived quality you get. Replacing Benteke as closely as possible in terms of value provided vs potential value, would likely cost a minimum of 70% the total figures so far, so (£7.88m + £24m + £4m/100)*70 = £25m. The sell on fee Genk have will also factor in whatever percentage that is, would need to be added separately to the figure. If it's 10%, you add 11% on to the fee (because increased transfer fee means increased % to Genk, the extra 1% covers that), making the overall figure approximately £27.75m That's got to be our minimum acceptable compensation for selling the player, purely taken mathematically on what he's cost, what he's earned us and his overall value. I assume we'll have figured something similar out internally and arrived at a figure quite close to that

tomh621
Would it be too much to suggest that we just block his move if we dont find replacement before pre season? I mean if he tries to have a paddy or start a strike then noone is going to sign him. He has to perform, and will want n international spot too.... LondonLax
There is no such thing as loyalty in football from either the players or the fans. If the fans think a player is not good enough they won't show them loyalty, they will want them out of the club. If a player thinks the club is not good enough he won't show any loyalty, he will want out of the club. No point fans getting upset at a players lack of loyalty, it's just hypocritical. Its inevitable that Benteke (with his agents advice) will throw his toys out of the pram and go on strike. He did the same at Genk, he'll do the same to us. Which will mean he'll probably go for less than £20m. If he doesnt get his move, I want Lambert to do football a favour and throw this ungrateful, greedy bastard in the reserves (after giving him a two week fine) and make him crawl back to first team training on his hands and knees. Con
Benteke didn't like scoring against the London or Manchester clubs. Only scored twice against a London club, both times at Villa Park. Here are the clubs he scored against. H - Swansea H - Norwich H - Reading A - Liverpool 2 A - Swansea (P) A - WBA H - Newcastle (P) A - Everton 2 H - West Ham (P) A - Reading H - QPR H - Liverpool A - Stoke H - Sunderland 3 H - Chelsea Clubs he didn't score against Man Utd Man City Arsenal Tottenham Fulham Southampton Wigan The only big club Benteke scored against was Chelsea, and coincidentally afterwards he got sent off in the same match.
