Zatman
I see improvement in the squad recent months. for me we need a backup goalkeeper 1st choice centre defender (Baker and Clark are decent backups though Baker could be a starter) reserve full back comfortable on either side centre midfielder attacking midfielder/winger striker if Bent leaves
AVFCforever1991
reserve full back comfortable on either side I'm thinking Lambert might try and go for Naughton again, had him at Norwich as well.. MagicMushroom
Everyone is very optimistic about Ireland leaving. Don't see it, not with the wages he's on. The best we can hope for is a loan where we pay 50%. We could cancel his contract. Short term could rove exspensive, but long term?

Long term it'd cost us the exact same as keeping him at the club, as he'd be entitled to every penny of his contract. Unless he agreed to take a reduced rate of course, but why would he? villan_007
Vlaar should improve next season, problem is he is injury prone, baker should improve . I think a decision is needed regarding Clark. Vlaar isn't injury prone - he has had one injury in 4 seasons - a calf strain. We defo need a partner for him though. As well has baker is starting to look they shouldn't be starting at this stage. caw2510
vlaar is injury prone. this was taken off wikipedia but you get the idea However, on 16 September 2007, Vlaar got injured in the Eredivisie away match against Roda JC (1–3).[12] Vlaar needed a surgery on the cruciate ligament and was out for the rest of the season.[13] After the surgery, Vlaar was confronted with an additional setback, as he had a bacterial infection. Vlaar recovered from his injury at the beginning of the 2008–09 season. However, during pre-season, Vlaar got another injury at a medial collateral ligament of his knee. After being sidelined for over a year, Vlaar returned to the training field. After an innocent coming together with Kevin Hofland, Vlaar damaged his cruciate ligament again. It was the same injury he had in the previous season, causing him to miss a complete season again
kevangrealish
Lichaj is out of contract this summer ? Wtf. Still think he can do a decent job as a squad rotation player. Also why are people mentioning getting rid of Herd ? I think he's our best central midfielder... N'zogbia needs to be kept on, Jheezus we have hardly any creativity as it is. I'd take 6m at the least for him though cant see many teams paying near the 10 we payed for him. And no-one has came up with holman. Apparently he's pissed off with lambert's regime now... prefer to see him stay because we would get peanuts for him if we sold him. Been linked to flamini AGAIN in the papers along with southampton. Exactly what we need. Anyone take 25m for Benteke ?
AVFCforever1991
We might as well keep the players that are on low wages and use them as squad players. Lichaj, Herd etc
R.I.C.O.
If we stay up I think we'll see quite a few leaving this summer being replaced by some more relatively unknown foreigners and prospects from the lower leagues. This appears to be Lambert's strategy and the direction the club is taking. If they turn out to be as good as Benteke, Vlaar, Lowton and Westwood then it just might work. Here's who I think will be released/contracts terminated: Ireland, Warnock, Hutton, Makoun, Dunne Heres who I think will be sold: Benteke (for stupid money to Man City) Bent (cut price deal) , N'Zogbia (part exchange)
Big_John_10
We do have a lot of CM. I'd completely forgot about Herd, always thought he looked decent in that position but i think he'll have trouble getting in over Delph or Sylla. We'll probably also have Gardner and carruthers looking to get opportunities next season as well.

The only other option is to let him go on a free. The most important thing is we do get him off the wage bill. Not sure how much he is on, but i bet its double or even triple what Bentekes earning at the moment? 2-3 players of the same calibre as Benteke or Westwood, makes us better. Thats what i meant by long term. Ireland is simply holding up progress squad wise.
sharkyvilla
I don't think anyone would be stupid enough to go for the Zog, not for a decent price anyway. We'll just have to hope that he keeps putting in a shift every now and then like he has since January. Getting rid of Ireland is much more important. Other than that I think the likes of Hutton, Dunne, Given and co will be gone and the wages will be back to something near sanity. If Benteke goes for big money then it would be worth keeping Bent if you can buy some players who will give him lots of service, but I think too much has happened between him and Lambert. I'd like us to keep signing similar players to those we have under Lambert. Players whose value doesn't depreciate the moment they put on a Villa shirt, players who care and want to be Premier League players. I don't care where they come from, lower leagues, Europe, other PL teams, and I probably won't have heard of any of them but that doesn't bother me. I think we might get something exciting to watch next season.
