The interesting stat thread

that was East Germany in the 70s and 80s.

lol

The West Germans were just as bad. As the report shows, they state sponsored doping in football by giving millions to various clinics in order to produce amphetamines (50s) Ephedrine (60s) and testosterone (80s).

Breitner, Schuster and Schumacher have all gone public over the widespread use of PED's in German football which is documented up to the 90s.

They've been cheating since the 50s and even recent research where players voluntarily gave blood samples indicated the use of EPO and blood doping.

The last time Man Utd played in the second round of the League Cup they lost 0-3 at home to York and MK Dons didn't exist.

September 1995 for the curious among you.

hopefully history repeats and its the same winner of League Cup as that season ;)

The Villa team that started today cost less then Lovren... apparently.

I think these prices are correct...

  • Guzan  - £600k
  • 21 Hutton - 4m
  • 14 Senderos - Free
  • 23 Cissokho - 1.75m
  • 02 Baker - Youth
  • 16 Delph - £6m
  • 08 Cleverley - Loan fee?
  • 15 Westwood - £2m
  • 11 Agbonlahor - Youth
  • 10 Weimann - Youth
  • 18 Richardson - Nominal?

Last night's 0-0 with Malaga was the first time Barcelona have failed to register a shot on target in a La Liga game since 2003/04.

If you want to drop that total by a little bit more then you could argue that we paid £0 for Guzan.  Technically this is his second spell at Villa Park, he was released under McLeish and Lambert picked him up on a free a month or so later.  It's cheating, but it's also true!

Maybe, which is why the word relative is important. I think opposition sides are weaker now than they every have been because the very best players end up on the bench at a small handful of elite clubs.
