Yacouba Sylla

I'd like him to just sit in the DM role behind Delph and Westwood similar to the role Mikel has at Cheslea. Gives Delph, Westwood and the full backs more license to go forward then.

He is a ball winner, not a playmaker.

Lambert you stupid prick stop playing him CAM!

Having watched the youth match today, I wonder if Lambert was attempting something similar yesterday.

The kids beat Chelski using a forward press system.

Villa played a high defensive line (vulnerable in first half to long ball to quick winger down channels) with the forwards very energetically harrying the Chelsea midfield and defensive line, causing them to make mistakes and lose possession.

Sylla was harrying the Liverpool defence together with Weimann and Agbonlahor.

Difference between the youth set-up and the first team was Carruthers. Even though he's not that large, he was able to dominate the midfield against the more physically imposing Ake (seconded from the first team, flown in by Chelski especially for the game).

This has much to do with his personality as his ability, I think.

His a ball winner, He can't shoot and he looks uncomfortable taking on players. He needs to play just infront of the CBs making interceptions.

That's where our deep-lying playmakers play.

You can't have a line of three there.

That's the thing about the DM position - the specialist DM is becoming extinct. You now have deep-lying playmakers not DMs.

Was on the train to London with him yesterday, his English is pretty minimal but after I recognised him he came and sat by us in standard class and felt no way to have a chat and a picture.

Hope he develops well as he's been decent so far.

Thing with Sylla is that you can't really play him in that position if you are playing Bannan & Westwood in a 3 man midfield. As Bannan likes to come deep to get the ball from the defence and Westwood more or less has to be a long side him to be a free man to receive the ball. Playing Sylla between the defence and centre midfielders would create almost a back 7 if you know what I mean, we would be far to deep and it would force our forwards to drop even deeper and apply more pressure to our defence, instead of protecting it. I think he is more of a box to box player to be honest, and I thought he played well the last day.

I said a similar thing at the Liverpool game, Folski. Our midfielders weren't contributing enough to warrant having three of them on the pitch.

I would have preferred to have gone back to the 4-2-3-1, with Sylla and one of Bannan/Westwood in central midfield. Or, as others have said, Sylla could be positioned behind Bannan and Westwood, allowing the fullbacks to provide us more width.

I like Sylla, but I don't think he had the best of games against Liverpool.

I see something in him, and I totally disagree with the person who said he offers us nothing we don't have already. Although he seems very raw he has already shown signs of a player who can break down opposition attacks and press at a high tempo. Hopefully when he gets more accustom to the pace of the league he will be more comfortable with other aspects of his game. Lets remember he was a French second division player and you can't expect the finished article. That's not his fault its our own for buying another player with potential.

Didn't Vieira talk of him as being a bit like Yaya Toure eventually or was that a load of bollocks?  Perhaps having the big black guy sitting in front of the defence is going out of fashion.  Either way I think he looks like he could be a decent player, it's just about picking the right matches for him.
