Right then. Doesn't this suddenly stink of banana skin?

Maybe an opportunity for us to pick up a bit of confidence.

I'd go:

--------------------Guzan--------------------

Lowton------Vlaar-------Baker-------Lichaj

--------------------Delph---------------------

------Ireland----El Ahmadi---Bannan------

-----------Delfouneso----Weimann---------

Yes, a definate banana skin but could also be the catalyst to team gelling.

Quite like the look of your set up OBE but would add in Herd at the expense of Bannan

.............Guzan

Lowton.Vlaar.Baker.Lichaj

...............Herd

.......KEA..........Delph

............Ireland

.....Weimann.Bent

This is the tie that changed my life all those years ago! Unfortunately I don't think we can afford to rest too many seniors as the rest just aren't good enough.

That said, I would be surprised if we don't go through. Is Clark suspended? Hopefully he is and we'll have him back in the league sooner.

Apart from a win (obviously) I would really love to see us surpass the circa 18,000 attendance that the bluenoses had for their first home league game of the season. That would be so bloody sweet!

I would have thought we would reach 20,000 for this. Anyone know how many they're bringing?

good fixture for us to have at this point. Need to get a first win of the season and more game-time together for the players to get used to the system. Guzan in for Given, Baker in at centre back, Lichaj to left back, Wiemann and Bent up front?

I'm in two minds at the moment whether to give some people a rest and others a chance or play the strongest team we can to give them an extra match/chance to gel because that seems to be what a few of the players need, the experience of playing together.

Also, whether to give Given a rest/drop him or play him and give him a chance to get some confidence?

I'd probably go with -

--------------------Guzan--------------------

Lowton------Vlaar-------Baker-------Lichaj

---------Ireland----------El Ahmadi---------

N'Zogbia--------------------------------Holman

-----------Bent-----------Weimann---------

or

------------------Given/Guzan--------------------

Lowton------Vlaar-------Baker-------Lichaj

--------------Delph-------Herd--------------

Bannan-------------El Ahmadi--------------Ireland

-------------------------Bent--------------------

Or take out Herd, put Weimann in and play 4-4-2. I'd play Guzan to give him a fair chance. We are not in a position to be resting players. We need a win for the confidence. Getting beat by Tranmere at Villa Park would be disasterous.

I'd play the strongest team we have available. Right now I think that would probably mean:

------------------------Guzan-------------------------

Lowton-------Vlaar------------Baker---------Lichaj

---------------Delph------------Herd-----------------

------Ireland--------El Ahmadi------Bannan-------

-----------------------Weimann---------------------

Jeez we miss Gabby.

As a name on a bit of paper yes, as a player, no.

You don't think?

He was just what we needed against Everton, a forward who can move and work the flanks, give the midfield something to aim at and compete physically with defenders. His goalscoring record might not compare well with Bent but he's twice the player.

Probably need to go with a strong line up to build confidence.

Could of course backfire spectacularly.

Which leads me to think lambert will play a a weakened team and take the pressure off everyone including himself.
