Speculation: Martin Olsson (Blackburn Rovers)

Paul Lambert is ready to pay £2.5million AND Stephen Warnock to lure Martin Olsson from Blackburn.

Aston Villa boss Lambert will rival Stoke in the battle to sign Sweden international left-back Olsson, who has handed in a transfer request at Ewood Park following Rovers' relegation from the Premier League.

And Lambert is prepared to throw in Warnock - a Lancashire lad and a Blackburn player from 2007-09 - as part of the deal after telling the former England defender he has no future at Villa.

Warnock was left out of Lambert’s squad for Saturday’s opening day defeat at West Ham and has only a year left on his existing deal.

The 30-year-old is also interesting Sunderland, now managed by former Villa boss Martin O’Neill, while several Championship clubs have asked to take him on loan for the season.

O’Neill needs a specialist left-back following the news that Kieran Richardson wants to leave the north-east club for family reasons.

And Warnock would prefer to remain in the Premier League rather than return to Ewood Park, four years after Villa paid Blackburn £8m for him.

Wouldn't mind him. Goes to sleep a lot and loses his winger at the back post from what I remember but going forward he is very good. And he can trap a football which already makes him better than Warnock.

Decent link.

He would fit into the Lambert style of attacking wing-backs. A lot of Blackburn fans think he is a little suspect defensively. From what I have seen, he looks better than what we have. Sign him up.

with baker and lowton.. we didnt see our fullbacks venture forward which is crucial considering we have no wingers.

Yes to Olsson, but I'm surprised at the love N'Zonzi gets by some people here. I don't think he's all that and he's a dirty player with a bad attitude from the times I've seen him. I think we need more focus on a left-back and a creative midfielder at the moment.

He's rubbish at defending. He should be a left winger, not a left back!

If we were playing with wing backs then he'd be a decent option but in a 4-4-2? Not for me.
