Best of luck for Stan Petrov, he is a great role model who always gives his best. You have a hard fight in front of you and you will need a lot of patience because the treatment takes a long time.

I have not read every page on the topic but since i have been battling acute leukemia myself since July 2009 i might explain a bit about the treatment for you.

There are two main types of acute leukaemia, aml and all, i dont know much about aml other than it has a lower survival rate than all. Some further testing will tell wich type he has.

All is treated with chemotherapy after a plan that is called Hammersmith 82. The treatment starts with three intensive periods with chemo, these go over several weeks and togethet almost takes half a year, this will make you sick and in much pain, i almost had too learn to walk again i laid in bed for almost one month. This is the length of many cancer treatments and after this is when the patience part comes in to play. Hopefully these intensive cures will put your body into remission and you can continue with the rest of the treatment plan. If you dont get remission the alternative is a bone marrow transplant. The rest of the Hammersmith 82 treatment plan consist of chemo, mostly pills for 13 rounds each lasting for 12 weeks, a total of 156 weeks. The best possible outcome you are looking at 3,5 years of treatment.

Acute leukaemia is a condition where the bone marrow produces false bloodcells, these are empty and they take over and replaces the cells that has a job to do, jobs like transporting oxygen, fighting diseases and more. These false bloodcells takes over the body rapidly and if untreated you will be dead after four months.

Hope this makes some sense.

Thanks for posting this, Milenko. Good luck with your fight, mate! :thumb:

That 19th minute applause was quite emotional. Everyone's behind you, Stan.

This 19th minute thing is a bit odd. Who's watching the clock? What about the action on the pitch at that moment - say a goalmouth chance at either end, or a controversial foul? Before kickoff would have been better IMO.

i think the point is that it's more important than what happens on the pitch

This

And by all accounts it sounds like it was a success.

19th minute applause was very moving.

Great to see him there.

It dawned on me during the game that after this terrible news stan was there supporting the club. Darren Bent went Xmas shopping when he was injured.

Seeing him made me respect him even more. Hope he stays strong throughout his battle.

Just back. It was pretty emotional just before the game. They showed Stan on the big screens sitting in the stand and played a pre recorded message from him where as far I could make out he said he was going to fight it, asked that he and his family got the privacy they will need and said he would be right behind the rest of the players giving his support. Couple of banners showing support for Stan in the Holte and everyone stood and clapped before the game and sung there's only one Stliyan Petrov for a good 2 or 3 minutes.

On 19 minutes everyone stood and clapped for a minute and again sang there's only one Stiliyan Petrov.

Contrary to what some believed Chelsea fans did not sing there is only one Stilyan Petrov they were singing there is only one team in Europe.

Says it all about the man that he was there today to support the lads and the club. He is a credit to this great club and hopefully his association with us has many more years to run.

You brought a tear to a 38 year old mans eyes today Stan and as I have said before I am so proud that you have captained the club I love.

Was so hard to keep those tears in. When they were showing him on the big screen before the game almost cracked me up. Can't imagine what he's going through. All the best Stan.

It sounded like the chelsea fans sang for stan from where i was in the lower north. Not 100% sure though now, I suppose we will find out in time. Lots of noise for Petrov today. The 19th minute thing was kinda surreal, the team looked possessed, they really wanted to score.

Hello AVFC fans,

First and foremost, I'd like to thank you all for your amazing support for Stan Petrov at Villa Park today, that was pure class!!! I am a Levski Sofia supporter, and most of you probably don't know this fact, but Stan is a big fan of my club despite the fact that at the beginning of his career he had played for our biggest rivals - cska (that's why you wouldn't find any interviews of him talking about them). He is also the captain of our miserable in recent years national team, and one of the few reasons I still keep watching those guys. Just want to say

YOU CAN AND WILL WIN THIS BATTLE, STAN, FOR THE SAKE OF ALL PEOPLE AROUND THE WORLD WHO LOVE AND SUPPORT YOU!

Thanks very much, Levski Sofia forever, and total respect to AVFC and its fantastic fans! Cheers!

He still looks healthy from the clip I saw earlier. But I guess that might change over the next few months.

The big change will happen after a few weeks of chemo.. Depending how his body reacts he'll either look tired or really really ill which may alarm some, but it won't be from the cancer it'll be from the treatment.

Ye I have known a few friends who had cancer. After the treatment you almost dont recognise them.
