Rooney has looked unbelievable this season, who is making him look good?

its only 10 games so far wait til business end of season. Leon Best has looked awesome so far in 10 games

Ridiculous. We're talking about World Class performances at top end and Leon Best, who's scored a few goals this season, well done to the lad but it's absolutely incomparable.

Or the 09-10 season when he scored 30+ goals and won player of the year. When he got injured, they looked so different and poor. Surely that shouldn't be the case when other players are making Rooney look so great.

It's definitely a team issue, Mourinho has said the likes of Lampard and Terry are among the best he's worked with.

International football is hard to explain, I don't think it lessens/betters players, I always believe club form is the main thing for showing true quality of a player. At Internationals you get players playing better for their clubs over internationals, other players who play best for their country rather than club (like a David Healy) and of course there are plenty who do similar. International breaks are so short and so different feel to a normal club routine that it's just impossible IMO to declare the best players just because national performances or success.

Terry, Gerrard, Lamplard, Rooney, Beckham all look like world beaters playing with top players and put them in an England jersey and they cant pass the ball 5 yards.

Bit unfair on Beckham. He was generally excellent for England. Agree entirely on Gerrard, Rooney and Lampard - none of them have had more than a handful of really good games for their country.

All Englishmen? I mean it's more than a tad coincidental that almost the entire English first 11 perform consistently well at club level. There is genuine quality

After all these years english players are not as good as their foreign equivalents and all their faults are shown when playing with English players.

Terry, Gerrard, Lamplard, Rooney, Beckham all look like world beaters playing with top players and put them in an England jersey and they cant pass the ball 5 yards. How many England players have ever been nominated for World Player of the Year. Think was just Beckham and that was a joke when he was 4th best midfielder in that United team

Beckham can't pass the ball 5 yards in an England shirt? At least we know you aren't being serious.

I've believed for ages that England have the quality, I mean these players play week in week out with some of the best players on the planet and don't look out of place, there's no way they aren't good enough to at least give the top international sides a run for their money.

maybe its them great players making English players look better than they are.

rooney will come out of this smelling of roses, as the WC showed players always do

capello however is royally ****

not one england player came out of World Cup smelling like roses except maybe Joe Hart and that was by defeault. Capello wont be **** as he leaving anyway so he wont care. He will get a contract with a big club and probably be successful while England are struggling to qualify for 2014 under super Englishman Harry Redknapp.

Yeah like we really struggled to qualify for 2012. Only won the group by 6 points. Shocking really.

Best player at Euro 2004.

World Cup 2006 - Out injured before and never got back fit, it's unfair to blame him for people rushing him back.

Euro's - didn't qualify.

World Cup 2010 - Clear underlying issues that lasted a long while, whether injuries or personal.

2004 - he was brilliant

2006 - shouldnt have been there

2008 - main reason England didnt qualify with a stupid penalty he conceded in Russia

2010- arguably the worst player in tournament,

He's out best player I agree.. but track record for taking people who can't play every game is not good. Brooking, Beckham, Rooney, Walcott, Ferdinand.. All taken as gambles and failed miserably when good players were left behind.

Admittedly alot have been because of injury - but he's going to miss all the group games, and then he'll have to hit the ground running. If we make it to the stage when Rooney will be able to play then that would suggest we're scoring enough goals to cope without him, so I'd probably go with leaving him behind.

I suppose it comes down to the form (and fitness) of our other strikers come the time, as well as the form and fitness of Rooney.

Wouldn't take him - if we get through the group without him the strikers that get us through should not be dropped in favour of him.

Our 5 strikers should be Bent, Sturridge, Crouch, Owen, Gabby

And yet Rooney got us through qualifying but you feel he should lose his place to players like Gabby, Sturridge and Owen who did nothing to help us qualify?

Why take a player that won't play in the first three games. You must go into a tournament with your full squad available. I actually think that England would play better in the tournament without him. Less expectation and a system less dependant on one player who could be easily marked out of the game.

He's lost his place! What **** use is taking him over any of the above if he can't place? Gabby for example might come in with 15 to go and nick a winner to get us out the group. Rooney can't do that.

Also as Morpheus says above - any berk of an opposing manager will know to mark Rooney out the game. One of the others comes with a little surprise factor. Remember Squillaci from the 1990 World Cup? No **** had heard of him and so noone knew how to play him. 6 goals later he's the Golden Boot......

There's only 3 group stage games. Do you think 5 strikers are all going to get a game in the group stages?

There'll be at least one, if not more, who don't get any game time in the group stages.

Why have Michael Owen warming the bench and not coming on during the group stages when you can save that place for Rooney?

Leave him at home.

If we make the quarters then the team that got us there should be given the chance and including him will have a negative effect on moral IMO.

Plus had he ever had a good tournament?
