wiggyrichard
Yes but he plays pretty football while getting his team relegated and he has an -ez on the end of his name. Awesome He's managing WIGAN, WIGAN ATHLETIC. With all the problems that come with it. No money, limited players and having to sell the best ones year in year out. Even keeping them in the PL is like winning a trophy Swansea & Norwich will probably finish higher that Martinez has ever done with a similar, if not lower budget. No further questions your honour. irreverentad
I think the squad at Wigan is decent. Certainly better than Wolves', Swansea's, Norwich's, Bolton's and possible QPR's.
phily85
Funny really im guessing there are a few fans that would rather see us playing fancy football than be in the prem. im not defending Mcleish but martinez oh dear
Keyblade
Where the hell does this "Martinez is a great manager" view come from!?!?!? The table doesnt lie. He is as bad if not worse than McLeish. This. Had we got Martinez last summer we would be in the same position and moaning about the useless Spanish word removed. Maybe we be calling him El Tw@t, El Cluelesso, El Hombre Loco....:? Really, 15th and about to be one of the, if not the worst PL season? He may not be significantly better than McLeish, but he'll have our players playing with a bit more fight and trying to get them to play better football. We moan about having a manager who gets us relegated, so people want to replace him with someone else who is going to get a team relegated? Super! We'll see come the end of the season if they're relegated. I mean, he has beat the drop twice before including last season when our manager got his far superior team relegated. So that makes him a good manager then? Because he flirted with relegation all season but survived? Im **** lost!?!? No, I'm saying he'd probably do a better job than McLeish, not that he's a particularly great manager. I mean, I think I was clear looking at my previous posts in this quote chain :? . Villastine
For the sake of this, admittedly off topic, Martinez McLeish debate how about the participants watch tonight and Sundays respective clashes against United and give a fair assessment of how both teams setup tactically and the end result. TrentVilla Posted April 11, 2012 Moderator Share Posted April 11, 2012 This debate is all rather pointless anyway, we have McLeish and it seems like he is going nowhere so there is little point talking about alternatives.

What good has "showing fight" and "playing better football" done Wigan this season..... or last for that matter. Whats the **** point of a manager who is shit until the last 10 games of a season and then watches "The Great Escape" for inspiration. One of the greatest Arsenal sides played horrible **** football and yet won games/trophies etc. Never heard too many fans moaning as they sang "One-Nil to the Arsenal" though. Same applies for Mourinho era Chelsea. The football was awful, but they won things so no one cared. This ^ If we'd defended better, and scored more, we'd probably have a minimum of 10 extra points and nobody would be complaining.

Keyblade
(post edited please stop the giant quotes) Well for one, he doesn't set up as negatively as McLeish; even against the 'elite teams'. That in itself would have won us some more points this season. Also the fact that as I've mentioned Martinez managed to keep his far inferior team up where McLeish couldn't last season. Do I think he's amazing as irrev is making out? Nope. Do I even want him as our manager? Nope. But I do think things wouldnt have been as utterly shit as they have this season, albeit still not ideal.
Moorski
Martinez agreed to stay for the three year contract he signed with Wigan, Whelan did not want him to go so he honoured his contract, did Mc Leish do the same at SHA? Unfortunately not!

Watch Wigan tonight and see what you actually make of them over 90mins against United. It’s simple really. Just let on tonight that you’re a Wigan fan. See what your view is afterwards and if others do the same honestly I think the debate will be over tomorrow.

Stu_The_Villan
I voted for Martinez for the poll in the summer and got hammered for it. If i remember correctly, Martinez had a grand total of 2 votes in that poll. Thats right... TWO! So why is it all of a sudden the vast majority want him now? Whats changed your minds? Is it because Ancelotti finally got himself a job and now you're back in the real world?
jacketspuds
Lambert is the only manager of the so called "smaller clubs" that I would happily take at Villa. I thought we were supposed to be a relatively big club? We should not be talking about the likes of McLeish, Kean, Martinez or McCarthy managing Aston Villa. (Saying that would still prefer Martinez to McLeish)
