Zatman
And did it look like Petrov could organise a defence last season against Newcastle? Or the whole of last season come to mention it! Since when is Petrov a goalkeeper :s
dudevillaisnice
There are many examples when he has organised the defence and sorted them out during the match.. look at last years Copa Del Rey for example, they eventually won it at the end. He is a top captain.

bickster Posted October 10, 2011 Moderator Share Posted October 10, 2011 doesnt look like a goalkeeper to organise a defence And did it look like Petrov could organise a defence last season against Newcastle? Or the whole of last season come to mention it! :? Do you actually put any thought into your posts? It's the goalkeepers job to organise the defence not the captain's, why would you even think that post was worth posting?
Stu_The_Villan
So Casillas is a shit captain now then yeah?? Even by VT's standards, that comment is mind boggling. Mind you, he hasnt got the skill, determination or leadership qualities that Petrov has. Jesus wept.
macandally
Bloody hell, I know Petrov is a bit static, but I didnt realise we were looking to play him in goal! Are Given and Guzan injured??? :winkold:

fripono
But his hair is nice and he seems like a decent bloke. Surely he must remain as captain. :winkold: Agree with all of that. The number one attribute for any would-be captain is integrity. Without it he will never command respect. The hair is less vital, though I have long felt that Nobby Stiles would have made a fine England World Cup captain if only he had sported Bobby Moore's blond locks. Of course none of this is to deny Petrov's other compelling attributes.

TRS-T
Stiliyan Petrov won his 105th cap for Bulgaria tonight. The most capped player in the history of the Bulgarian national team. Well done Stan.

barry'sboots
Its a fine achievement but losing 1-0 at home to Wales - although themselves a much improved side now - shows just how far backwards the Bulgarian team has gone over the last four or five years, certainly since that WC semi-final side. theunderstudy
Yeah but that was a bloody good Bulgarian side, same as this is probably the best set of Welsh players they're likely to have for a long time. Saying that Bulgaria aren't bereft of talent, Berbatov, Petrov x2 etc.

Saying that Bulgaria aren't bereft of talent, Berbatov, Petrov x2 etc. The three of them are all no longer the player they were at their peaks though. Stan and Martin P because of age, Berba because he is lacking games but also ageing. If they were to be at, or around, the level they were 10 years ago I believe that these players would probably have been replaced by now.
GarethRDR
shows just how far backwards the Bulgarian team has gone over the last four or five years, certainly since that WC semi-final side. Terrifying to think that was 17 years ago.
theunderstudy
True, although both Petrov's aren't as old as they look! And Berbatov was the PL's top scorer last year so he's not washed up yet. They do need some young talent though.
GarethRDR
Something they're sorely lacking. Any of the current crop of so-called young players (Popov, Ivanov, Delev, Mihailov etc.) have already been thrust into the full national side because they just don't have anyone else. Looking beyond that, there's a distinct lack of genuine prospects for the future, save for maybe Radoslav Kirilov (and even he's still unproven outside of the Italian youth system).
