Isn't it heartwarming to see world leaders at this COP26 set aside their differences on politics, on culture, on beliefs and on international disputes to come together and work as one, shoulder to shoulder, to protect the interests of the fossil fuel industry and banks?

**** useless the lot of them. These are our leaders.

The rest of the world and the people who are angry need to start getting a bit more ‘industrial’ and taking matters into their own hands.

Wow, quite a dossier of evidence you're compiling in this thread  :crylaugh:

You might want to check his NASA credentials. His real name is Steven Goddard.

He is a scientist, a geologist, but also a fruitbat. He's claimed measures to stop climate change will end with communism :D

Here's the actual NASA site: https://climate.nasa.gov/

Just for good measure: https://www.snopes.com/collections/climate-change-denial-debunked/

It was always my conclusion that if the destruction of the environment is to be at least slowed down, whether it be caused by loss of habitat due to over-population, or climate change, then the free-market should be eradicated and a command economy should be established, where the government could ration all forms of consumption.

Wouldn't this amount to a communist state?

Do your conclusions match those of the bellends you proffer up in this thread?

Apart from a few dissidents like Goddard, who, by the way, is in the process of being deplatformed, I think the argument has been won, and the British public seem ready to pay much higher prices for their energy and to give up their polluting life-styles. The UK may only have less than 1% of the global population but it can lead the way in setting an example to the rest of the first-world economies.

It is just a matter of the government boiling the frog slowly enough for the electorate to accept a reduction in their standard of living.

As Caroline Lucas is quoted as saying, "GDP is an incredibly poor metric for measuring wellbeing or social cohesion".

I don't expect a systematic cut in GDP but rather that it will be allowed to wither away to a more environmentally viable level.

Whether the democratic process is capable of implementing the necessary big changes required, quickly enough, is doubtful.

I think Thunberg would prefer a much more authoritarian approach.

The government has admitted that its efforts to insulate the UK from climate change impacts have been inadequate.

The costs of climate change to Britain are "high and increasing", it says, and could reach many billions of pounds a year.

Ministers say they'll have to go much further and faster to curb the worst impacts.

It means climate change must be built into all long-term decisions, such as new housing or infrastructure.

The aim should be to avoid costly remedial actions in the future.

BBC

They tell us this after they've emptied the nation's coffers into their corporate and personal friends' offshore bank accounts.

Golly.

Australia's proper collecting on its climate karma.

The Murdoch mentality's bitter fruits are many.

It certainly is an interesting photograph.

The houses all seem to have been built at slighty above the expected level of the flood, and so it might be assumed that the flood occurs quite often.

Any reference to where the floodplain actually is?

Possibly Queensland from a couple of days ago?

Got to wonder what's swimming around in it?

An article about Sydney's more recent problems here...

The Lismore floods in Queensland two weeks ago was a monster. It's not gotten much news globally as we're a bit preoccupied with Ukraine but it was supposedly a 1-1000 year flood. Sydney has been hit by floods as well this week but not quite as spectacular.

Here are some pictures of Lismore from two weeks back:

There's also an interesting article on the phenomenon that occurred, called a 'rain bomb'.

Quote

Reid says over the course of the two heaviest days of rain, 26 and 27 February, enough water flowed in the atmospheric river above the city to fill Sydney harbour – that holds about 500bn litres – almost 16 times.
