Apart from a few dissidents like Goddard, who, by the way, is in the process of being deplatformed, I think the argument has been won, and the British public seem ready to pay much higher prices for their energy and to give up their polluting life-styles. The UK may only have less than 1% of the global population but it can lead the way in setting an example to the rest of the first-world economies. It is just a matter of the government boiling the frog slowly enough for the electorate to accept a reduction in their standard of living. As Caroline Lucas is quoted as saying, "GDP is an incredibly poor metric for measuring wellbeing or social cohesion". I don't expect a systematic cut in GDP but rather that it will be allowed to wither away to a more environmentally viable level. Whether the democratic process is capable of implementing the necessary big changes required, quickly enough, is doubtful. I think Thunberg would prefer a much more authoritarian approach. It certainly is an interesting photograph. The houses all seem to have been built at slighty above the expected level of the flood, and so it might be assumed that the flood occurs quite often. It's not gotten much news globally as we're a bit preoccupied with Ukraine but it was supposedly a 1-1000 year flood. Sydney has been hit by floods as well this week but not quite as spectacular.
