The New Condem Government

Charles Dickens would recognise these attitudes being espoused by certain Tories. It's the era they belong in. How sad that such people still exist, and feel its become acceptable to air such views today.

Saying disabled people work harder because they are grateful for the opportunity is like saying fat birds try harder in bed.

It might not be incredibly PC but that doesn't mean it's not true.

Didn't the Labour woman on QT demand that the government should start evangelising on the excellence of disabled workers, to encourage employers to hire them?

Caps on number of EU migrants is illegal. European Union needs to draw a line in the sand now with Cameron. A founding covenant of the EU is freedom of movement of workers and it has been a huge reason for the prosperity of nations over the past decades.

Try do something illegal like limit movement - which is completely a political move so they can defend from UKIP - needs to be met with a full threat. United Kindom needs to be expelled from the European Union if it breaks the treaties it signed and as such the laws of Europe.

The result will be a huge victory for Labour / Lib Dems in next election.

I am really sick of politicians. Doing what's best for themselves to be re elected and not whats best interests of the electorate.

Well yes, capping EU immigration is illegal under the current treaties, that's rather the point of a renegotiation.

By the way if you think immigration isn't a huge issue with the UK electorate you might want to check the polls on that subject. For once Cameron is actually reflecting the will of the majority, or at least what that majority consider to be their 'best interests'.

I think the threat of expulsion from the EU would be met with wails of horror from Guardianistas, unbridled joy from the Torygraph and a huge wave of utter indifference from most.

Can't you see alL eu nations break the rules when it suits them, with no comeback. I can think of the French Illegally banning our beef years after BSE, and also outright proping up Airfrance. And are the Germans not just started building 4 new coal powered energy plants to run on brown coal, which is pretty much against what they signed up to.

Why does no one ever challenge the Tories on this paying off the deficit nonsense? Cameron was again at it today in PMQ's

They've now borrowed more money in this parliament than EVERY Labour Government combined. £548 BILLION in 4 years

More proof that if you say it often enough people begin to believe it.

It's only a problem if you don't understand the terminology involved.

There are two big, shocking failures by the Labour Party in this respect.

One is not pointing out that the current government have increased the debt, contrary to what they claim. Since it's the centrepiece of what they laughably call their "long term economic plan" (ahahahahahaha - my aching sides), it's worth noting.

More fundamentally, they should be pointing out that government debt is simply a vehicle for private sector savings. It's not required to fund government spending. It's not a sign of wanton excess, just a political choice to pay public money to rentiers instead of either increasing taxes or taking control of the money supply.

Because they have failed to explain this, almost the entire public policy debate is conducted on the basis of the Tory narrative. Because the official Opposition don't contest this, broadcasters are under no obligation to do so either, it seems.

And so the national debate is carried out in the corner of the room in which we have painted ourselves, while the elephant wanders about, unnoticed.
