Without Root we seem to struggle to just nudge the ball around at around 5 an over as India have done for large parts of both innings so far. It’s not really what we’ve done in our successful period to be honest. We’ve always gone at it hard from the start with your Roys and Bairstows and then continued to go at it hard in the middle order with your Morgans and Buttlers. It’s why we were amassing scores of 400+. The trouble is that without Root keeping things ticking over for the big hitters we don’t have a consistent source of steady runs in the batting lineup.
