Awful from England outside Root today. Two players getting big hundreds snd we're spluttering towards 400

I think you’re looking at it wrong and from a more traditional perspective.

It feels to me like England are moving away from worrying about individual accolades, test averages, economy figures etc. All that matters now is how many runs the team accumulates and how many wickets are taken, and I think this England team would back themselves to take 10 wickets on any wicket, anywhere.

It’s a truly team focused ethos and it’s paying dividends, sure Stokes’ test average is suffering, but what does that matter when he looks set to go down as one of Englands greatest ever captains, dependent on how we go in the next 2-3 Ashes’ he could well end up being regarded as Englands greatest ever captain, captaining Englands greatest ever team. If a bunch of folks get out for 20 runs off 20 balls who cares.

Of course there will be occasional matches where it doesn’t come off, but that ratio is looking beyond healthy at the moment.

Was watching the 2 semi-finals of the Womens T20 world cup and there were a couple of "free hits" What is a free hit and how do you get one and anything else I need to know about a free hit ???

A free hit is a ball that has to be bowled again by the bowler because the previous one was an illegal delivery (a no ball). The batter cannot be out from the free hit (except for a run out).

Absolutely. That’s the aim, as you can’t get caught or bowled out, so go for it. Shot to nothing. Free hit!

Thanks guys,im still learning cricket.Only started watching it last season.

The beauty of the game is that there’s always a bizarre rule to learn somewhere along the way, I’ve been watching it for two decades now and still learn something new occasionally

New Zealand recovered well in the 2nd innings. Nearly level and with wickets in hand. Putting the pressure back on England

This is the problem with the follow on unless you've a really gigantic score.

If you allow them to get a good few runs in the second innings and build up a proper target for you. You only need to lose a few early wickets and panic/pressure can set in.

This might sound like a silly question ( butI have only been watching cricket since last season )

Is Australia any good on the international stage ?

Yes. The women are the best side in the world. The men, it’s different. T20, they’re ok, but behind England and Pakistan and arguably India.    ODI, 50 over cricket, right now again, OK but not the best. Test Match cricket very strong at home, not so much away from home. India probably the best side, England on a run of form after a really poor period, so Australia at home are excellent, struggle like everyone else in other conditions.

And if we don't get a wicket 'tonight' (UK time) before they go into the lead then the pressure will go up another level. Partly as Southee was lethal in the 1st innings with all those sixes and getting 73 so fast... and he's number 9 !  😮😵☹️

NZ 10 for 4 right now. (Effectively). 🙂This is not a bad position for England! But... still lots of work to do and the kiwis still have dangerous batters who might make us suffer: Williamson, Blundell, Mitchell and... Southee the warrior again, oh no !  :s

NZ just bowled out, follow on enforced.

The commentators on talksport2 hilariously think they might have a chance.

😂

They're currently 275 for 4 with both batters in very close to half centuries. If they win this I will hold you personally responsible, Rob. (Guilty of serious 'mockers'). 😬 Let's not forget that they were the best test country in the world only recently. That doesn't change overnight.

Yeah but they need to score around 500 to have a real chance, can’t see that happening.

Not necessarily, we're still capable of scoring only more or less 100 runs in an innings. It's just that it happens less these days, thankfully.
