GarethRDR
Ah, but I have cunning plan to go on sabbatical for 2 months when I've saved enough. 8)
Eames
Wedding Ring should be 3 month's salary. keep saving Gaz! Bollocks. Just a silly rule invented by girls. Be clever, do what I did, go to the Carribean when the $ was 2 to the £. Buy a ring at a massively discounted rate not paying 20% sales tax and other bits. Fly home and immediately double your money. Mrs E's $900 engagement ring is now worth about £3k 4 years later. 8)
Genie
The engagement ring I bought the OH was only about £300 iirc. We had already decided we were getting married and so I asked her to find a ring she liked, she found one, I bought it. Job done.

Surely there has to be a period of time betweeb you both deciding you're getting married, and actually getting married. Unless you are strolling past a church, make the decision and go straight in and get married. Unless you're referring to the people who get engaged and never set a date, so end up engaged for years and years, in which case yeah that's stupid

It annoys me when people who have known each other for a year in their early twenties get engaged with no real plan to get married. Why bother? But people who have been together for long enough to know they want to get married within a year or two and are actively planning it , I see no problem with engagements then. GarethRDR
Bloody hell, cynical shower of bastards, aren't ye? FYI: We're trying to save up for our first house at the moment, so we can't afford to save for a wedding at the same time. We know we both want to marry each other, so getting engaged is the natural thing to do. Gives us time to fully plan out the wedding whilst we finish saving up for a deposit on a house, then as soon as we move in we can start saving for the wedding. This shit ain't cheap! Chindie Posted February 29, 2012 VT Supporter Share Posted February 29, 2012 what's the difference between being engaged and being married? Ones a legally bidning contract, the other is a largely meaningless promise to sign said contract sometime.
