shambles
Friedel - 6 Gets 2 marks knocked off for their goal. Otherwise a solid display (as usual). Carlos - 7 Quietish game. Collins - 9.5 - Wow. This guy is one immense defender. Powerful in the air, reads the game well. So glad he scored. Dunne - 8 Has the knack of being in the right place at the right time. Him and Collins are one hell of a partnership. Warnock - If he carries on like this, he'll have every right to expect to be on the plane to South Africa. 8. Milner - 7.5 Not quite hitting top form, but as always works his rocks off for the team. Ash - 7.5 - As above really, a mixed game. Sidders - Seems to be the glue that holds the team together. Without him we seem to struggle. 7.5 Petrov - 7.5 Battled well against the Chelsea Midfield Carew - 6 Struggling for form. Holds the ball up much better than Emile though. Gabby 8 Our pocket rocket is also a pocket powerhouse now! All todays display missed was a goal.
The_Randy_Villan
Ash was fantastic today. It's obvious that he's out of form at the moment, but his determination makes up for it. We know he'll come good eventually, so I'm not worried at all.
sled
Collins & Dunne, whew! Warnock's best game so far imo. Great team performance against a top side. If we are to have Heskey better to get Carew off than all that malarky with the full backs. MON fine today. Ref, least said the better - penalty on Gabby as clear as day. Brumerican
Just about managed to get all the jizz off my keyboard!!! **** huge win for us today. Warnock , Collins and Dunne are turning out to be brilliant signings. Really cant wait for Downing to come in on the left for us. We just need to stay with the pack and keep churning out results!!! MOTM Rusty bollocks. Collins not Sidwell :winkold:
Phumfeinz
Standouts were Gabby, Warnock, Milner and Petrov. I thought Petrov was superb today, especially first half. He and Sidwell seems to work. No Collins?

El Zen
Petrov was indeed excellent today. Best I've seen from him in a 4-4-2. The formation in itself worked surprisingly well, too. I'll admit I was disappointed to see us lining up in the 4-4-2, but with one of the strikers often dropping back to reinforce the midfield we looked very solid all over. Going forward we were fluent and energetic with players swapping positions to make it difficult for Terry et al. Two headed goals from set pieces tells me the manager has done well in trying to replace Laursen.

kkr
All I can think of saying at the minute is Collins for £5m? Indeed i cant believe i knew sod all about this guy before he signed, he is a superb player!
Oaks
top, top win that. cant believe it!!!! two constructive observations of us: we never shoot - neither the forwards or midfield ever seem to want to hit one - why??? ash is a liability at the moment - i think he needs to start a game or two on the bench because he has no confidence, his play is predictable and his poor decisions keep dropping the other players in the sh1t. other than that - fkin brilliant! That liability got 2 assists tracked back and worked really hard. Im becoming a little tetchy with the growing Ash bashing, yes he is hardly on form, but he is still a very important player to the team, and is getting assists when not playing his best. Dom_Wren
Friedel - 8 - Shocking mistake for the goal, but ended up working for us at he was immense for the rest of the game. Cueller - 8 - Not a RB, but needed his experience and steady head back there, got stuck in. Dunne - 10 - How good was he today? As good as Collins. Collins - 10 - How good was he today? As good as Dunne. Warnock - 9 - Best LB on the pitch today. Young - 6 (9 for his work) - Nothing came off for him today, poor decision making, bad technically. But worked his socks off. Petrov- 10 - Ive criticised him in the past. But he was the best CM on the pitch today. Sidwell - 8 - Worked hard, good use of the ball, played his part in a great win today Milner - 8 - Worked his socks off, good use of the ball, could give him this rating every game. Love it. Agbonhalor - 9 -Put the absolute shits up possibly the best back four in the world (bar ours obv), Strong as an ok, and a tiny bit rapid. Carew - 7 - Fits and starts, but aseeing him track back and tackle Drogba fairly, made me smile MON and staff - 10- knew all about Chelsea and there system, fantastic preperation. Ref - 3 - Bottled the biggest decision that could have cost us points. got better, but if that would have cost us the game, he would have been lynched by MON! What a lovely game, we played with skill, pace, passion and desire. Followed the game plan tactically, and every man worked there socks off. Chelsea are a VERY good team, and will take points on the road all season long, Everybody asociated with AVFC can be very proud today.

drat01
All of them superb - even MON Only down side getting a very good view of one Porn King Roberto in the crowd when the camera showed the Villa fans towards the end. Scenes like that should be saved for after the watershed :-)
slabsquare
Superb. Two outstanding home performances against the two most sordid teams in English football. MON left it (unnecessarily) late in the summer but this squad is really starting to come together. Defence looks more than solid and Cuellar will be unlucky to lose his place to L Young at the moment. Still need a more creative / ball playing midfielder, both to give us more options going forward, and so that we don't rely so much, as we did today, on sheer hard work and pace on the break to hold on to a game. And we still need an out-and-out goal scorer up front. That aside things are looking good and I would cautiously say that we are relying less on backs-to-the-wall luck than we were this time last year. Back four + Gabby, Milner outstanding today. Just a pity that we lost (deservedly) to two very average teams along the way and blew Europe just when were looking equipped to cope, otherwise we'd been flying right now
Ikantcpell
Cracking result this..evry single player on the pitch gave thier all and it was wonderful to watch..very well deserved victory...keep it up lads..villa til i die
paddy
Really really good result and decent performance to go with it. Certainly wasn't expecting Dunne to be this good at attacking set pieces. Only disappointment was Young's delivery from open play, really not good at all, but then we got 2 from his set pieces which were much better, so can't complain! Gabby 8 Our pocket rocket is also a pocket powerhouse now! All todays display missed was a goal. Id agree with this on the most part, though I think Friedel more than made up for his error in the first half with the two saves from Deco. I think some people are being a bit harsh on Ash too. A few great deliveries, two assists (well, one and a half if you want to credit Lampard with the flick on ) and a wonderful ball to Milner which should have ended with Carew scoring. Botwsinga had a superb game for Chelsea until he went off, what a player he is, but when he did go off Ash was a superb outlet for our defence and he really didnt allow Chelsea to set up camp in our half of the pitch during the final twenty minutes. Its good that we beat a very good team who were clearly playing well too. I dont think anybody can say that Chelsea didnt turn up today. They played some superb football and really threw everything at us at times and but for a somewhat lucky goal by Drogba, we looked comfortable. We really are resilient at the moment. The brand new back four look like they have been playing together for years.
HeathVillain
What a great performance by the lads , massive commitment from the whole team to come back from behind against Chelski! Warnock was superb today - he made some huge challenges coming into the centre from full back. Friedel showed immense strenght of character to have such a good game after making a hash for their goal as well. Even Heskey did well when he came on! UTV!
