colleh
Laursen's ran away with one position in the original poll. Need a conclusive poll for his partner.... Olof or Gareth?? Will run it for 6 days...
Tubby
Olof had the desire, hunger and passion for the Villa, but Gareth was an excelllent defender and leader.
AndyClarke
Olly was great, Southgate had a big mouth in the end but said exactly what the fans were saying, he spoke out for us and although that meant he would leave you can't blame him for what he said, deserves more respect than he ever got in my opinion. On top of that he was an excellent defender and edges it over Olly for that little bit of class in his play.
colleh
Remember, this is purely for what they did post 2000. Gareth was only here 18 months. Mellberg for 7 years.
brommy
Leaving aside the emotional attachment to Mellberg (battling attitude, hating the in-bred scum, celebrating the 5-1 when subbed etc.), this question is VERY close for me. Still deciding...
brommy
Remember, this is purely for what they did post 2000. Gareth was only here 18 months. Mellberg for 7 years. But it is about the players ability to represent a team of the noughties, not most amount of games played.
Turamber
Bah I still prefer Alpay. But of the two available it has to be King Olof, Southgate is more of a player of the 90's.

Vote King Olof.
switters
Gotta be Mellberg. A fixture in the side for much of the decade.
The_Rev
Assuming the team is about players in peak form and fitness, Gareth Southgate. Better player than Olof. Better player than Laursen. Shame the way he left, but I think we all know that was the fault of the club, not the player.

Troglodyte Posted September 7, 2009 VT Supporter Share Posted September 7, 2009 Olof for me, too. It really is a shame we never really saw the Laursen-Mellberg partnership get a long run with a decent 'keeper behind them.

Southgate hardly played for us this decade whilst Mellberg was one of our best players for quite a few seasons. For me, Olof should get it. Zatman
2 great players pity they never played together. i go for Olof as he stuck with us and performed admirably during the DOL reign of terror when playing wiht useless defenders like Samuel and Ridgewell.
