M tiStop moaning, it was like this all the time back in the day!  Queuing for over an hour to log on sometimes.

I've been playing since vanilla and never seen a wow expansion where you haven't been able to log in for 48 hours tonight i tried queueing for 4 hours tonight only to be dc'd over and over again and i'm not even on a high populated realm

My time is limited due to work so i thought id kick back tonight and play but obviously not

Not even TBC was this bad

Got on straight away today and it looks like they've sorted out the lag issues.

Still been an awful launch for the most part though - very poor.

It's a shame as the content so far has been incredibly enjoyable - just hit 94 and having a blast with some of the new areas.

My server was dead before they joined it up with a couple of others in MoP, today I tried to login and had a 4k player queue. One of my mates plays on Tarren Mill and had a queue of almost 8000 early this afternoon, he was 2500 last time I checked, so he should be in by midnight.

Abandoned my mage and I'm trying my druid now (I have a 90 boost, so may as well use it). I really like the itemisation change they've made with the gear so all leather has int and agility on it, allowing you to use the same gear for tanking as a bear, then going resto, for example, really nice.

I also really like how there are more rares, and they show up on the map, as well as the bonus objectives that appear around the zones with quite a high XP reward, it makes questing a bit more fluid, you can be doing your normal quests, then something else interesting  pops up on the map. Not sure exactly how the bonus objectives work, do they change or expire? Could make levelling alts a bit less repetitive.

I wasn't far away from uninstalling a couple of days ago, but it may slowly be sinking its hooks back in to me.

I think they ripped that off from GW2 - which is no bad thing as it's a great feature and the XP is well worth the effort.

Is it even possible (or worthwhile) getting into this game now?

I've tried reading this thread to give a sense of what it's about and it means **** all to me.

It's still a fun game to play, but 8 or 9 years ago it was the best thing ever.  Roughly ten of us from here all playing together, it was quite simply brilliant.

It can be downloaded and then played up until level 20 for free Dave.

That would give you an idea of if you like it or not.

Yeah, I'd say so. It's definitely more fun if you can get a couple of friends to join you too, experiencing just how brilliant the world is for the first time is great but if others are also discovering it all for the first time too then it's better. If not then just join D1 for a tour guide (join his server anyway).

One of Blizzard's biggest strengths is making games that have a manageable learning curve for new players. They ease you in to it well, you'll be fine. And you have a bunch of people here to help if you get stuck.

All those words what you lot are using, I can pick all that up without having to read a bible of some kind?

You start by picking a character that will have a few very simple abilities.  You start off doing easy quests, that allow you to level up, and gain new powers.  Because it's all online, you've got the option to group up with other players to do stuff.  At one point years back, about 10 of us from here were all playing on the same server and doing stuff together.  It's very addictive.

I tell you one thing that has stood out on WoD so far and that's that I'm actually dying occasionally.

I'm not talking Dark Souls level of deaths but they've definitely upped the toughness on the mobs.

It's quite refreshing actually.

If you've never played a minute of it, you should try it. I was never a gamer, and frankly don't consider myself to be one now, after 7 years on and off of playing the game. It runs on Macs, and it runs on most computers, you don't need a gaming rig to play it, so it worked for me.

Word of caution- it can be a huge time suck, because you can log on and 6 hours later, you have no idea where the time went. There's a guilt factor, for me, and I know others, who prolly should have been doing something more productive with their time. But I admit it, I love the world they created. And I'll probably aways get the latest expansion just to see what they've done new.

The game has changed, but like life, you can never go home again, as they day. That magic of our first weeks playing can never be replicated.

Very easy to learn and play, and things are spelled out more clearly now than they were 7 years ago, in terms of how to meet your in game objectives.

The cool down on shiv has cost me my life a few times!

Like Risso said, at it's heart World of Warcraft is a very simple game. You pick a character and you are dropped into a location in a huge world (and I cannot overstate the word huge enough) which is determined by which race you pick.  There are two factions who are basically at war with each other, and each faction is split into smaller races.  There are small differences between the races abilities but it's mostly cosmetic. You should pick the race you like the look of the best I guess.

What will have a dramatic impact on how your game plays is which class you pick.  There are 11 to choose from and each of those 11 can be further subdivided into three sub classes and each of those can be tuned slightly into how you want them to handle when you pick talent points.  The thing about all of that is it's not as complicated as it looks because it is introduced at a really manageable pace.  It's reasonably easy to grasp what the different classes do without any prior knowledge of the game too. Do you want to be the big tough guy with the sword and shield who stands toe to toe with bad guys and slugs it out with them or do you want to be the little sneaky fella with a dagger who creeps up behind his enemy and stabs him in the back while he's not looking?  Do you want to be the magic user who casts spells on people from range? Do you want to be a healer who can keep a group of others alive while they do the fighting?   Sub classes are easy to define when you get what classes are. Say you pick the magic user, do you want to then specialise in blowing people up with fireballs or do you want to freeze them to death with frost spells?   Do you want to be able to do a lot of damage to others very quickly at the expense of being easy to kill or would you rather be tougher but less powerful in attack?   Which role do you want to fill when you get into a group situation?

There are three main roles to play within a group, tank, healer and DPS.  A tank is the big guy who is hard to kill, his job is to keep the bad guys away from the far more squishy healer and DPS guys.  Healer speaks for itself really, in the group the healer's job is to stop everybody from dying. You mostly focus on keeping the tank alive but you will need to heal others.  DPS is damage per second. You kill stuff.  Most people seem to go for DPS which means it can be oversubscribed.  You are certainly less important to a group than a tank or a healer and this can work against you at times in the game.   Thankfully there are classes who can excel at two or three of the main roles in the game.  They aren't necessarily better or worse than the guys who can only specialise in dealing damage but personally I think being able to tank or heal is a great help when you are trying to get into group events later on in the game.
