Pinebro Posted October 5, 2023 Posted October 5, 2023 I think we need to have an adult conversation about this. Discuss.
Popular Post JAMAICAN-VILLAN Posted October 5, 2023 Popular Post Posted October 5, 2023 On paper... they shouldn't be as bad as some have been in fairness. However, we still can't discount the injuries. If Moreno, JJ, Buendia and Mings etc were available, some of our " rotation players " would be players which started and or came on tonight! 5
Vive_La_Villa Posted October 5, 2023 Posted October 5, 2023 At the very least Donk needs to be replaced. Where’s Tim? 2

Popular Post AndyM3000 Posted October 5, 2023 Popular Post Posted October 5, 2023 Not sure what you expect when we are missing Mings, Moreno, Ramsey, Kamara, Diaby, Buendia. We have decent squad depth but 6 injuries to key players are going to make these cup games difficult. Add to that we need to rest Pau, Digne, Luiz because they are rolled out in the league every game. 8
andym Posted October 5, 2023 Posted October 5, 2023 I'm not so sure its necessarily the quality of the players. Yes they are not as good as the usual starters, but for example Dendoncker stood in for Kamara in some of our better performances last season, Bailey has been effective for us on and off. However, we seem to have a bit of an attitude problem when we play worse (on paper) teams outside of premier league competition. Stevenage, Legia, Everton and now 1st half tonight, we just looked like we out for a laid back kickabout. Dougie is probably our best, most consistent player and yet even he threw in an absolute stinker against Everton. 2
Mark Albrighton Posted October 5, 2023 VT Supporter Posted October 5, 2023 It could be reasonably said that seven of the starting eleven tonight would not look out of place starting in our next league match. Martinez, Konsa, Carlos, Digne, McGinn, Bailey, Zaniolo. The idea that tonight’s starting eleven was a second string side is stretching it somewhat. Add to that Diaby, Kamara, Ramsey along with Moreno, Mings and Buendia being unavailable for selection. Even just two of those being available would drastically improve our options. I think Dendoncker with Luiz has worked fine before and could work fine again. Partnered with Tielemans, it’s more problematic. Duran, we were all in love with him two weeks ago. Broadly speaking, as has been suggested before, we probably should start with Watkins and then bring on Duran and likewise elsewhere on the pitch.
MrBlack Posted October 5, 2023 Posted October 5, 2023 ...is fine if we don't have 4 first team players out injured. 3
Zatman Posted October 5, 2023 Posted October 5, 2023 On paper they really should be better, its just not happening
Popular Post sharkyvilla Posted October 5, 2023 Popular Post Posted October 5, 2023 The only way they'll get better is if they play and get used to the system. We need them and have to encourage them rather than give them pelters, which is the easy thing to do. 7

This - they're not settled in the side or familiar with the system yet and it will take some time and patience for them to get there.
Mark Albrighton Posted October 5, 2023 VT Supporter Posted October 5, 2023 Unai basically copying what Sharky said there.
rbcuk Posted October 5, 2023 Posted October 5, 2023 We haven’t got the depth, the players that don’t start, just aren’t good enough as proven tonight, we made hard work of a mediocre team

I have a feeling that the second string can potentially " click " at some point, with more games. We need to consider that they are essentially making cameo's.

OutByEaster? Posted October 5, 2023 Moderator Posted October 5, 2023 We really could do with a second right back. 1
