Tells me we definitely need another striking option to Ollie, Cam, and Duran.

If Watkins goes off the boil this season we're in a spot of bother up top.

Yep, I don’t see how people think we have enough up top

Doesnt Diaby cover that role? I’ve not seen much of him in Germany but it seemed he played as much through the middle as he did on the wings.  The squad building this summer has all been about flexibility and I’m into that.

Sure, but so did Shaun Maloney. Didn't make it right for MON not to bring in a proper goalscoring striker.

Flexibility and rotation is great, but it's no replacement for having specialist quality in every position IMO.

He's also 5'7 so there will be games where that will be an issue and games where his pace and trickery will be a massive threat.  But that means that he's not a long-term cover option.

They both need to step up to the plate in my view. Shocking performance from Watkins today.

It's funny how we always drop in performance whenever Watkins is out of the team.

Fans just don't realize how important he is.

It’s also possible to value Watkins realistically, and also sometimes be frustrated by him.

Pochettino seems to rate chukwumeka from what he is saying, a player that can play 10 or 8

Have to say I thought he is playing well, been quite impressive. Wish he stayed.

Yep hence why many of us think we need another option because the difference is so great and it shouldn’t be….if Watkins comes out of the team the player coming on shouldn’t be such a drop off…plus…

I was more frustrated by Archer not being able to do the basics.

I think we still need a forward. If we ended up with Doku, AND F Torres on a loan to buy, we would be nearly complete, it would be the best window in my memory.

Jury’s out on Bailey, it’s his first game back and we were failing before he came on.

How do you find a striker at the same level as Watkins and convince him to join while not being guaranteed a starting spot?

It's incredibly difficult. A top level striker isn't going to come here and compete for a spot if he can be the main man for a club at a similar level.

I agree. Consider that Manchester United just spent 70 million on a forward who is young and good, but is absolutely not guaranteed to be any better or even as good as Ollie.

We did it for Tielemans in midfield, we did it for Torres for CB despite the high quality options in those areas…that’s the task for Emery and especially Monchi and they’ve already done it twice this season to convince those two players to come into a packed quality areas of our squad so no reason why they can’t do it for the striker area as well.

Can I just remind you guys that these are pre season warm up games, where working towards full fitness is the key. Also how many times this season will we play in 80 degrees Fahrenheit conditions in the coming season.

Most of us would drop dead after 5 minutes at that pace and in those conditions tonight and yet here we are, sat in our comfy seats at home making ultra critical comments. I used to enjoy the time when supporting Villa was our sole focus, now it seems that many of us have turned into social media critics.

There were some very exciting passages of Villa play tonight, and if we can replicate this in a Premier League environment we will have a major impact.

Stop fixating on our perceived deficiencies, and let Emery get on with his job of building a top quality unit ..... at which he is world quality.

A number of you will continue on moaning but I'm going to do the opposite. My sons are looking into getting four Terrace View season tickets (if there are any still available). I paid for five season tickets for my sons and I for many years during the nineties and the noughties, until ill health stopped me going, after countless years of massive enjoyment. I might get back to see at least one or two games if the Terrace tickets are possible.

What a time to be a Villa fan!

Yeah but Man U always over pay.  We’ve proven in other areas we can get good deals and some other club do the same.  We can’t as fans keep bleating about Brighton and Brentford picking up these great deals and then compare our Striker search with with Man U overpaying.  Monchi and co have been brought in to solve issues like this.

Little different as there are more spots available in midfield and Torres seem to be deployed at fullback by current evidence

I think we were absolutely excellent in the second part of the first half, but essentially the best team throughout.

As the 'analysts' said at the end, Villa were the most interesting team of this tournament, the one that impressed the most.

Lots to like about us and great to see the players mixing it up in relatively equal fashion.

When our first team play in cooler climes we are finally going to properly shit on some teams. Excited for the new season.

A couple more quality additions would make for a sexy summer, but even without them, we look juicy.

All I can for sure is I’m glad I’m not not making these deals. It’s basically brain surgery-level delicate at this point.

I don’t think it’s different really because more spots but there is a lot more quality competition numbers as well. Anyway let’s just see what happens.
