Why do you say that?

It's been suggested in some areas of the fandom that the reference to it being the 'latest' album under the boris name isn't a perfect translation, and it would be more accurate to be 'last'. I mean, I do love the boris albums, but in recent years I've actually come to enjoy the Boris albums much more.

Ah fair enough. When I read the release info I saw the latest bit so didn’t know the translation point. Maybe with the 3 albums they are providing a conclusion to each element to their sound rather than last one of each. If it was the last “boris” record I suspect that there would have been a little more fanfare.

To be honest just happy with more releases from the band and that this is just a nice surprise. I was relistening to flood a couple of days ago which just put me in that mindset anyway so I was very happy!

Once again been terrible at listening to new music, mainly been Townes Van Zandt and a bunch of Swedish language stuff according to Spotify .

Anyway these ones I have listened to a bit:

Heads for the Dead, Mass Worship & Sarcator.

Heads for the Dead - The Great Conjuration [Things You Might Have Missed 2022] | Angry Metal GuyMass Worship - Portal Tombs Review | Angry Metal GuyAlkahest | Sarcator

Personally I think it was another decent year for new music.

I have a hastily cobbled together top 10 but in no particular order, although Project Gemini, The Lounge Society and Ty Segall have probably been aired more than most.

I also bought quite a few EPs this year and will post my list of them later.

Top 10 albums of 2022

  • Ty Segall - Hello Hi
  • Viagra Boys - Cave World
  • Katy J Pearson - Sound Of The Morning
  • Courting - Guitar Music
  • Warmduscher - At The Hotspot
  • Yard Act - The Overload
  • Project Gemini - The Children Of Gemini
  • Oog Bogo - Plastic
  • Lounge Society - Tired of Liberty
  • Brian Jonestown Massacre - Fire Doesn’t Grow On Trees

Now that i've had a little more time I can update with a list of nearly rans and EPs!

firstly the nearly rans:

Melin Melyn - Happy Gathering

Anorak Patch - By Cousin Sam

Bambara - Love On My Mind

Wow. I have been really shit at listening to new albums in 2022 😳

Read a review of Benjamin Tod’s Songs I Swore I’d Never Sing on twitter, gave it a listen, and suddenly I have my favourite 2022 album.

Edit: Should perhaps tag in our resident country music expert @Seat68

This is scary. I listened to it today whilst I was working in the house and as a result listened to some of his earlier albums. Very enjoyable.

Quote

When the story is told about how country music was saved in the modern era, it’s the post-punk roots musicians who should be given deserved credit for coming into seed the revolution. They were the ones to pick up the traditions that were cast off by the mainstream. They were the first to move back onto Lower Broadway in Nashville when it was still a seedy place full of pawn shops and adult bookstores. They were the first to cultivate grassroots networks autonomous of Music Row in Nashville, creating sustainable careers, and eventually, launching outright superstars.

I've got all of those, found them disappointing.

My likely album of the year doesn't drop for another twelve days - 1 Mile North's The Sunken Nest - I say this having only heard one track thus far, but 1MN got my 2020 AOTY vote with their previous LP and this is very much trending in the same direction.

That being said, this year I have mostly been enjoying (in no particular order):

  • Holy Fawn - Dimensional Bleed
  • Brutus - Unison Life
  • Carpenter Brut - Leather Terror
  • Zeal & Ardor - Zeal & Ardor
  • worriedaboutsatan - Bloodsport
  • VLMV - Sing With Abandon

  • Scalping - Void
  • Rolo Tomassi - Where Myth Becomes Memory
  • Pianos Become The Teeth - Drift
  • Jean Jean - Fog Infinite
  • Plaid - Feorm Falorx
  • Poly-Math - Zenith
  • HEISA - Outliar *cough* technically an EP but it feckin' slaps hard *cough*
  • Burden Limbs - It Can Never Be Satisfied
  • a-tota-so - Lights Out
  • Dead Bird - In The Absence Of
  • Sergeant Thunderhoof - This Sceptred Veil
  • NYOS - Celebration
  • Porcupine Tree - Closure / Continuation
  • Terraformer - Rebirth
  • Lost In Kiev - Rupture
  • And So I Watch You From Afar - Jettison
  • El Moono - Temple Corrupted
  • The Sea Shall Not Have Them - Debris
  • Final Light - Final Light
  • Catbamboo - Fervor
