Not been a vintage year for new music?

I feel the same. I don’t think I’ve bought that much this year.

Wet Leg, which I pre ordered last year, Beach House, Kae Tempest, Big Thief, Julia Jacklin, Arcade Fire. Gwenno. Add in Katie J Pearson and then Warrington Runcorn NTDP which @bickstergave me and after that I’m struggling to think of many others. I’ve got a list to buy next time I visit a record shop, but not to hand, though Billy Nomates is on it, think that’s next year, mind.

edit, found a few

Hurray for the Riff Raff — LIFE ON EARTH

Weyes Blood - In the darkness hearts are glowing.

Yeah Yeah yeahs - cool it down

Check my moves by Kurt Vile.

He’s one where I like his stuff, but having bought “Smoke ring for my Halo” years ago, (edit. 11 years, jeebus) it’s like “that’s his best, he’s never gonna beat that”, so I never buy any other KV albums.  Will give it more of a listen, though… just in case.

AOTY is quite comfortably...

Nas - King's Disease 3.

Other mentions go to...

Fontaines DC - Skinty Fia
Yeah Yeah Yeahs - Cool it Down
Crows - Beware Believers
Brutus - Unison Life

That's largely it for me i think.

Half Man Half Biscuit - The Voltarol Years

Not sure why my album sales are suffering because of this

Top of the pile by a considerable and increasing margin is Prioritise Pleasure by Self Esteem. Fantastic, just great. Lainey Wilson's Bell Bottom Country has also been a favourite this year. In addition new albums by Miranda Lambert and Luke Combs have received significant play. This years Taylor Swift album Midnights is getting a lot of play over the past few weeks. I stress though, Self Esteem, such a perfect album.

Personally I think it was another decent year for new music.

I have a hastily cobbled together top 10 but in no particular order, although Project Gemini, The Lounge Society and Ty Segall have probably been aired more than most.

I also bought quite a few EPs this year and will post my list of them later.

Top 10 albums of 2022

  • Ty Segall - Hello Hi
  • Viagra Boys - Cave World
  • Katy J Pearson - Sound Of The Morning
  • Courting - Guitar Music
  • Warmduscher - At The Hotspot
  • Yard Act - The Overload
  • Project Gemini - The Children Of Gemini
  • Oog Bogo - Plastic
  • Lounge Society - Tired of Liberty
  • Brian Jonestown Massacre - Fire Doesn’t Grow On Trees
