We are not finding these gems and paying big bucks for once they have been successful. Like watford with sarr Brighton with mac alister and bissouma Brentford with toney etc When we go cheap with have bought players like engels sanson nakamba trez aeg who none went or will go for for big fees. Barring cash kamara and martinez who else could we likely sell for profit that we brought? You could probably add luiz too Sarr cost Watford 30 million, Bissouma was Brighton 2nd highest transfer fee they ever signed and Toney was a 10 million signing These are not gems

Like who? We don't have any deadwood in the squad except maybe Guilbert who has been on loan the last 2 seasons Because of the last clearing in the woods he was still able to get rid of 80 percent of our wide players
Popular Post Vive_La_Villa
Brighton spent 8m on a 20 year old unknown kid from Argentina and loaned him back to a club there. It was good scouting and turned out well for them but also extremely risky. A lot of these kind of signings turn out to be losses. You just don’t hear about them. You only do that for game changers.

He worth 4 x that value now minimum Bissouma went on for a profit Sarr is being quoted at 50m (whether they get that is another story)

Toney was signed for 10 million by a Championship team from a League 1 team Its probably the record transfer for a League 1 player. Its not a gem
useless
Brentford and Brighton sign the type of players they do because they can't attract big names and their resources are more limited, if we couldn't attract big names so instead bought a bunch of players every window in the ten to fifteen million bracket à la Nakamba, Engels, Samatta and so on, we would probably eventually unearth a few 'hidden gems' but we would also end up with a lot more players like the trio just mentioned, people forget that whilst Brighton sign players for relatively cheap and then sell them on for a profit they also spend millions on a lot of other players and we never hear of them again. Both Brentford and Brighton are midtable clubs at best we're trying to better midtable teams not emulate them. There's a reason big six go for and spend big on big name players or players that are well known, that's because those players are proven and buying them gives you a better chance of success, this idea of signing a load of hidden gems and becoming succesful doing that is a fantasy that some seem to have but doesn't happen in reality, Leicester perhaps the one exception but that will never be repeated and even with them people talk about Kante being an unknown but at the time he was their record signing.

Normally when it’s against their team. For example I know loads of non villa fans that really rate Watkins highly. That was a fair criticism of him last season, but this season he's not-penalty goal rate is good too. He's already gotten as many non-penalty goals this season as he did last season. At the rate he's going now, he could conceivably get 20 goals in the league this season with 15 of those not being penalties. The_Steve
Give it a few years and the likes of Feeney and Rory Wilson will be talked about as real gems. That’s even before we consider how we integrate Tim, AJ, Kaine, Louie and many of our bright academy prospects. Just because we didn’t sign them from South America does not mean we don’t scout well for the future. Philosopher
Ollie has a 14 goal season where he scored 1 penalty. And got a few assists. Ollie and Toney are of a similar level in terms of talent and ability. The difference is one plays for a team happy to stay up with no one capable of displacing him, with a settled team and manager. The other plays for a team with aspirations of European football, and quality rival in Ings, and a team the has has more than 3 managers and 5 formations on 1 and a half seasons. Swap the two players round and I'm sure you see similar struggles from Toney.

By the standards of the ridiculous market today, the wages given to the likes of Digne and Coutinho are not that high. We’ve been in the league long enough to afford it and we are not in debt and probably going to be very profitable moving forward. Spending £8m on a young player is a still a risk even with a low fee. Every transfer comes with that. Neither guarantee success, but let’s not cherry pick examples to make one look better than the other.
useless
I think we've got a Brazilian in our U15s, probably a dual national, I think Broggio is a dual national with Italy, and Woody Burgess is a dual national with Germany, there might be others. West Brom had a number of dual nationals when Harrison and Hopcroft were there, most notably Leo Cardoso who has since signed for Chelsea, they've also got a current dual national in the Italy youth team.
