The arrogance of our fans mocking the Conference League is embarrassing

We havent played a game in Europe since 2010 and the closest we got in that time was away games at Swansea. We havent even finished top half since 2011

Not like the Europa Conference league would be that taxing either.

Viborg, FCSB, Silkeborg, Anderlecht, AEK Larnaca and Gent.

Those teams are who West Ham played in the competition so far.

Perhaps they've just had a lucky draw but that's a pretty average pool of european teams. They also won their group so skipped a round and resumed in last 16 in early March so I really can't see the squad being stretched that much.

Just checked Leicester and their path was different. They dropped in the Conference league from europa and played Rennes, PSV and then Roma so harder draw.

I would prefer to be in europa league even if that would be harder to win as there's more depth and of course you can get into CL that way rather than go all in for the league.

Let's just get in one of these competitions after over a decade away and see what happens.

Would prefer Europa league though even if that's harder compet

We want Spurts to take all 3 points vs Saudicastle, right?

I don't.

A draw with a couple injuries and a sending off for both teams would be the perfect result.

Man ure are too far for us to catch now but the other 2 need to stay within our range. Brighton and red scum have games in hand over us so the more teams we can catch if we keep taking wins gives us the best chance of top 6.

I don't think it's arrogance really, personally I'd love any form of European competition, it'd be a real sign of progress and with European specialist Emery a genuine chance of a trophy for the first time in forever, but I don't think it's right to label fans as arrogant for looking at what's happening to West Ham this season and thinking is it worth it? This time next season would we not rather be in Newcastle's position than theirs? Not in Europe but genuine CL contenders and everyone talking about them

Thursday night European games do impact your league season, and I think a lot of people would prioritise the PL over the conference league as we'd be much more likely to succeed longer term by pushing up the table.

If anything, it's more arrogant to assume we'd be able to compete in the conference league and progress in the PL at the same time than to favour one over the other

Newcastle are six points ahead, 20 GD better and a game in hand.  I know we could catch them but with the goal difference it’s almost like 7 points ahead and a game in hand and we are have 7 games left, that’s a huge mountain.

My head says we need to focus on Spurs and thus Spurs losing is a wiser/better thing for us.  Out of our hands and any result helps us but we just need to focus on us keep winning and let’s see where that leaves us.

Nothing wrong with setting the bar high but if we fail fans better not start moaning at emery or the players.  Whatever happens its been a absolutely remarkable season under emery

I am a little concerned about this to be honest. A lot of people are almost expecting Europe at the moment. Even if we finish 8th it’s been a outstanding effort from the team and manager.

On the other hand it is something wrong to set the bar low. There is no fun, no excitement, just boring, but of course no disappointment.

I’m well aware that asking for 7 more wins this season is maybe insane, but is so much more fun than thinking Brentford would end our winning streak and we would end up in 8th.

Just reference some of them to the meltdowns they were having at the end of the January window.

I'm sure some people were saying we would struggle to finish top 10, and even Nottingham Forest were chucking money about etc.

Newcastle to beat spurs is preferable.  There is no way we're catching them. They'll beat Everton, Southampton and Leicester. They'll probably beat Leeds and get something against chelsea who will be well on the beach by the last game.

Even if they lose to spurs, that gets them above our points total even if we win every one of our games.

For that reason, spurs dropping more points is the ideal option.

Our fight then is with Liverpool and Brighton over 5th 6th and 7th. Given we play both of them, it effectively becomes within our hands to get 5th. And we've got insurance to still finish 7th and an outside chance of the conference if we aren't perfect.

4th, whilst mathematically possible, is realistically impossible. I know many would have said the same about top 8 a couple of months ago, but this next leap is a leap too far in my opinion.

Exactly what I was thinking earlier in the thread, Villa can win every game and probably still won't get in. Newcastle and Man Utd both have a games in hand and just looking at their fixtures they won't drop enough points.

Would have took top 8 at the start of the season and definitely would have took top 11 when Gerrard got sacked but feel like there is going to be a lot of disappointment on here if Villa finish 8th.

Unless we lose every game from saturday until brighton no fan should have a meltdown

This season has been remarkable

I think this game is a win-win-win regardless of the result. Think any result can see an upside. But personally I'd like a draw.
