All the above are reasons why the “big” teams with deep high quality squads usually rise to the top in the latter  part of the season, when injuries, fatigue and suspensions really start to kick in.

Yep and that is what we want to be

By the way, I don’t think Kamara would have joined had we told him we were just signing Carlos afterwards and that was it.

All season, Gerrard and even the players have been saying it’s an exciting project and players will be brought in. It’s actually rare you see it so candidly spoken of - especially from a manager.

That leads me to think there is a couple of big names still joining or certainly we’re talking to. Would love someone like Gabriel Jesus (massively unlikely).

But projects take time, they would know its a longer term plan

I think it’ll be another quiet week this week, maybe see Trez leave, before the real fun kicks off next Monday.

Weirdly, I’m excited to see who we can shift as much as who we can bring in. Will be great if we can get some decent money for the likes of Davis, Trezeguet, Guilbert, El Ghazi etc.

it’s important for our finances to shift those players.

it makes us look less like failures to outsiders too if the net spend isn’t so stupidly massive

I don’t think anyone thinks we are done on incomings yet

I keep seeing links to Yannick Carrasco from Atletico Madrid. A great player no doubt and regardless of the 'would he join us?' question I am unsure where he would fit into our squad. He normally occupies a left sided role and to me this would put him in competition with Coutinho. I can't see him joining and not playing most games and it's not an area of the squad that I think we need to prioritise, BUT, if we did sign him, how would people see him fitting in our starting eleven?

He has played wing back at Atletico a bit this season. For 50 million rumoured we wont be signing him as Digne back up since we dont play wingers

You’re probably right. The striker situation intrigues me though. It’s obvious we’re poor in midfield but there are dozens of players that could improve us. We’re not poor up front, but we do miss too many chances and we can definitely do with an upgrade. The problem is, the pool of players to choose from is much smaller and you have to pay A LOT of money for a goalscorer.

I really like the look of Archer but is his all round game good enough? Does he give us enough up there compared to Ings and Watkins? Say what you like about them, they’re both useful - Watkins with his energy, pace, pressing and physique and Ings for his positioning, link up play, passing and finishing (not been great recently!). Ideally, we need somebody like Watkins but with a much better touch and technique. If Archer is that man, then great, but I fear he isn’t just yet.

Tricky one. I don’t think I could even name somebody realistic that would join and is better than what we have for a reasonable price (£30-50m).

If Timo Werner was available I think he is the closest to what you describe.

Excited about who we can sell?  You’re right that is weird ;)

Long shot I know but, I’d love us to get Mikel Merino to complete the midfield overhaul… He’d cost a fair whack but we can offset it by selling both Luiz & Sanson, he’s v.good defensively as well as technically, and the perfect player for us IMO

Now, he does sound like a bit of a player.

No. One wouldn't work the way we play and the other is a one season wonder

Agree on jesus but that's harsh on Gallagher

I do think Chelsea would make us pay through the nose to get him though, there's no deal to be done there, he'll be eye wateringly expensive
