Xann
The improvement in AI style replication is really quite impressive. I'm not quite sure what this will mean for the electronic music scene? It's going to be utterly assimilated, quite soon, with other genres following.
bickster Posted December 14, 2021 Moderator Share Posted December 14, 2021 I just learned the connection between Frank Zappa and Smoke on the Water Zappa was playing in a Casino in Montreaux , someone let off a firework and the Casino burns down with all Zappa's gear still inside. Meanwhile on the other side of the lake Deep Purple are in a recording studio and are watching the fire. And that was the inspiration for Smoke on the Water.

I don't know how to break this to you, but... that's up there with "Golden Brown is actually about heroin" in the "Oh, really, you don't say?" stakes. It's even explained pretty clearly in the lyrics of the song. Edited December 14, 2021 by mjmooney

SOTW isn't really a Deep Purple song that I like either.

Seat68
Going to drop some knowledge bombs on you. The Beatles song Yellow Submarine is about a man that sailed the seas, and he relayed this to the Beatles who then sailed to a land, of submarines. They then took up residence in a yellow Submarine. 1

Xann
Quote The 200 Best Albums of the Last 25 Years, According to Pitchfork Readers You chose the best records released between 1996 and 2021. Pitchfork My score - 10 - Though I do have number 1, the only one of theirs I have. It was a 3 star album when I bought it. Don't trust music journalists kids.

They seem to be massively biased towards & against certain genres.

Seat68
I have a few but **** me Pitchfork is Nathan **** Barley at times. It wants to be so cool. So they go for Golden Hour by Kacey Musgraves as that was the breakout album that was a long way from country music. Not any of the 3 far superior albums that preceded it. They go for Folklore, Red and 1989, by Taylor Swift as they are seen as a little cooler than the earlier albums. **** Pitchfork. Pile of shit. They also placed Neutral Milk Hotel way way too low.

chrisp65
Nope, I’ve just been through and checked again @Xann Lots of near misses, I’ve some XX but neither of those, don’t have Blur or Radiohead or LCD Soundsystem or Gorillaz etc because there’s been something else I wanted at the time or I’ve been broke, and then the moment’s gone. Distinct lack of Richard Norris, Cian Ciaran, Alabama 3 and Sparks on that list. So, close, but no cigar up the chuffer, as they say. But hey, all lists are based on one of two things, units shifted, or opinion.
