Just finished Shutter Island, from The Wire writer (well he wrote a couple) Dennis Lehane.

Being made into a film by Scorsese, if they keep the books story its going to piss off a lot of people.

Incredible book.

Wiki page

I intend to read this one some time soon. It's been recommended to me several times. Also, Johnny Depp (who I think is fantastic) is starring in the film adaption, so I'd like to read the book before the film comes out (same applies to The Rum Diaries).

.

think i will check this one out sounds interesting

if you enjoyed shantaram maybe check out

Ballad of the Whiskey Robber by Julian Rubinstein

also due to be played by Depp at sometime if the rumours are to be beleived ...

Started reading World War Z yesterday. zombie11.gif

I have seen that recommended so many times. Let me know how you get on.

I finished The Road last week. A few chapters into this at the moment:

Its about how the human brain struggles to cope with random patterns and events, and why that is. I now know that there is a colour picking test which the average human being will lose in a competition against a rat!

If losing means i don't pick a pink Ford Anglia then I'll happily let the rat win ...

I saw the trailer for that the other day. Looked good but seemed like it had the most obvious twist in the world. And a little er... unoriginal with it.

I love to read 'Clive Cussler and Jack Du Brul's Novels from the Oregon files'.

i read everyone of the original Dirk pitt stories but now i've sort gone of him ..he's gone a little stale for me .. Son of Dirk , Oregon files , Kurt Austin etc etc .. I've even had the "The Chase" which is a detective story for about 18 months and haven't got around to reading it yet ..just can't bring myslef to read it

Alex Berenson is my current favourite .. just finishing back to aback reading of the first 3 john Wells books .. pretty enjoyable stuff

Just returned from my hols so, I took five books away with me

Merseybeast - Ian McNabb - Self penned Biog, Interesting, some definite factual inaccuracies (I know, I was there), some distortion of the truth (ditto) and shit because I never got a mention (probably because he lost the race on the M602)) - Opel Manta vs Bedford Minibus, the minibus wins!) - actually it was a decent read for me, but I was kinda on the periphery of the story anyway.....

Damned United - Great Novel. couldn't put it down. Makes me want to read a real Clough Biog, still not seen the film, not sure I want to either

Some book by Mark Radcliffe, Disjointed tales of his life as a DJ...........OKish

Narrow Dog to Carcassone - If I hadn't been reading it in France, I'm not sure I would have found it that amusing, blokes writing style got on my tits after a while

The Latest John Le Carre book, cant put it down, well worth a read

I don't really like books too much as in stories, more Auto/Biographies.

O'Neill, Lampard, Rooney, Ranieri, Di Canio, McGrath, Flintoff, Zola.

Some great reads (Di Canio I really liked) and some were decent, I enjoy those sort of things, so weren't really dissapointed by any but I'm sure more critical people would.

I don't read often now I have sky plus in my room, watching movies, funny stuff and porn helps me get to sleep!

I finally got around to reading 1984 by Orwell. It was every bit as good as I'd hoped and more. Finished it in three sittings.
Did you read it in Norwegian, or in English?

Surely this should be in the "Embarrassing Things You are Willing to Admit to Here" thread? :)

Ah finally VT Book snobbery to go with VT music snobbery :-)

I like Archer's books good light reading even if the format is a little repetitive .. His Paths of Glory is an interesting take on Mallory and Irving though the kiwi's called it an insult to Hilary .. but any country that allows the French Secret service to blow up ships in it's harbour deserves to be insulted

I've decided to download audio books so I can go for walkies and not have to sit and read.

Currently 'reading' The Great Gatsby.

I've also got 1984, 2001 Space Odyssey, 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea & Moby Dick ready & waiting :thumb:

Of course. :)

I think Archer is the worst writer I have ever read, by some margin. I actually read two of his, because I thought the first one had to have been a "blip" - NOBODY could be that bad a writer and sell so many books. The second one convinced me.
