Thats the thing, he has done "fairly well", but doing what exactly?

In a game like this we need players who can carve open space down the middle.

Whelan is just a safe pair of hands.

If nothint changed this reminds of the game under Bruce where we literally did the same thing (Crossing from the wings) for the whole game even though it was clear it wasn't working.

Think Dean might need to have a go for it here. I undersrand he is trying to do the right thing but as it stands this will either end in a stalemate or us losing 1 - 0.

Obviously conditions and injuries aren't helping at all either.

Well he is played as a DMC. You can't expect him to be Romario.

I'm not blaming him for how he plays lol.

I'm saying he maybe should not have started or should be subbed.

I think we all know how he plays by now hey?

I guess one could argue we don't need a DMC in this match, but wouldn't the rational thing be to substitute the box to box midfielders with a playmaker to resolve the lack of creativity? I mean we could throw the sink at them here, but it's not like Hourihane are doing a whole lot.

I do kinda agree with you mind.

I think the DMC has to be sacrificed.

They're satisfied with a 0-0, which really isn't good enough for us.

I prefer the whole attack is the best form of defence philosophy we've been using so far.

We've dominated the play without any luck.

Stoke are a dirty team aren't they? A couple more of their players should be on yellows and Ince should be off for a second yellow for simulation.

We've made a buttload of mistakes though too, poor final ball almost every time, sloppy in possession when a break was on...

If we play to our best we shoudl have too much for this lot.

Of course not.  But I expect him to show for an easy outlet in the middle.   When the are pressuring the cb’s.   He’s not doing that.  And that is his job.

I’d get the ball to el ghazi and bolassie.  Create space so they only have one to beat, then let them skin Pieters or Ince and walk it into penalty area   Then shoot or pass low and hard.

If that doesn’t create. Then ohare in for Whelan with Connor dropping to DM.
