Congrats to him as this must mean he's now part of the never ending English manager rotation, where once you're in you'll always be employed again, and again, and again. Not sure how, or if this effects our promotion chances? Doubt he'll be able to lift them that much. Certainly make them harder to beat.
dn1982
Karanka is quite a rigid manager and after seeing Forest beat Arsenal it may work for us for once!!
Demitri_C
Rowett signing new deal at Derby so looks like no carnage at Derby. But to be honest we need to be relying on ourselves now and just concentrate on winning games.

Bolton and Ipswich are both out so if Wolves or Cardiff lose their respective replays the games will still be on. Only Bristol City's game against QPR has survived the cull of that weekends championship schedule in the top 9 at least. 2 games for the rest of us before the SLAMMING of the window. Demitri_C
I would have rather got the Sheff United game out the way now, then we would have had all the tough away games from the top 6 out the way. But hopefully by the rescheduled game Sheff United might have dropped off.

ender4
Second place is averaging 1.88 points per game (ppg), and looks like finishing the season on 87 points. Villa would need another 43 points from 20 games to finish on 87 points. That means we need 2.15 ppg for the rest of the season. We have currently been averaging 1.69 ppg. It doesn't look good honestly when you look at the numbers. We need a massive improvement for the rest of the season. Mark Albrighton Posted January 9, 2018 VT Supporter Share Posted January 9, 2018 I’d be delighted with 7 points from those 3 as long as it’s followed up with 6 points from the following games against Burton & Sha.

Yeah i’d be happy with that. I think all five games are winnable, but I don’t think we will win all five (the most league games we’ve won in a row under Bruce is four I believe). Realistically we should bee very happy with 2 points per game for the rest of the season. If Derby then beat us we can't blame the second part of the season. Beat Derby at home, and that might tip it our way. 4 wins and a draw in the next five games is not realistic. We are huge favorites in two games (Barnsley and Burton), small favourites vs small heat, underdogs vs SheffU and equal vs NottForest. That are realistically 10 points from the five games. Depending on other results, that can bee ok. More than 10 points are very good (but not if we don't win against "them")

I calculated the figures for whoever is second, so if Derby lose/draw, second place changes to Cardiff or Bristol, and so the number stay similar. Derby are also playing Bham City so unlikely to lose. But lets assume a bad draw for Derby AND neither Cardiff NOR Bristol win. Probably quite unrealistic, but always possible. Second place is then at 1.85ppg so would get 85 points for the season. Villa would then need 41 points from 20 games, or 2.05ppg. Our current average for the season would be 1.74ppg after our win, so still well below the required minimum.
