The Manager thread

Would take him as our next manager.

Edit: Funny thing Boro have done. They sacked Southgate in 2009 hours after he'd won a game. It took them 6 and a half years to get promotion.

Their form isn't terrible - 2 wins in 3 and 4 wins in 8. Got fantastic granted, but a lot of teams have had worse spells

Monk sacking is strange one will they have a new manager by time we play them? Not so sure. Coleman wpuld have bee a good fit for either one so strange he went Sunderland.

My prediction with carlos was correct. Wonder if either of those clubs will look at wilder or johnson?

Apparently Boro have decided on Pulis and he'll be there before they play us:

Tony Pulis expected to be named as Middlesbrough manager by new year

'Middlesbrough hope to name Tony Pulis as their new manager by the end of the week and, ideally, as early as Boxing Day, when Bolton Wanderers visit the Riverside.

The former West Bromwich Albion and Stoke City manager is in discussions with Steve Gibson, Boro’s owner, with a view to agreeing a three-year contract to succeed Garry Monk, who was sacked late on Saturday night following the team’s 2-1 win at Sheffield Wednesday.

Gibson has known and admired Pulis for a long time and is believed to feel that the 59-year-old’s pragmatic tactics will suit a Boro side who were moulded into a cautious, counterattacking unit during three years under Aitor Karanka. Monk’s attempts to foster a more expansive approach had foundered during his seven-month tenure.

[. . .] Although Monk was said to be “surprised” and “baffled” by his 9pm Saturday exit, Boro have won only 10 of their 23 league games and are ninth, 19 points adrift of Wolverhampton Wanderers, the leaders, and 12 short of second-placed Cardiff City. They are, though, only three points behind sixth-placed Aston Villa, who visit the Riverside for a potentially vital game on Saturday. By then it is hoped Pulis will be in the dugout with Craig Liddle, the caretaker, having reverted to his role in charge of the academy.'

Great defeat at boro then

makes no sense sacking monk  because you don't like his style of play yet you go for someone even worse

The only 'style' people care about is winning IMO

Could work. Karanka played very  dull stuff in the championship. They only scored 63 goals the year they went up. Stoke scored 69 goals in 2007/08. Karanka then seemed to play for a 0-0 every week in the premier league, he made McLeish look attacking.

Of course it's perceptions. Very easy to label someone like Pulis anti-football but not someone who played for Real Madrid.

On a personal level, I have a lot more time for Pulis than I do for that boring whinger Karanka.

Will be interesting to see Pulisball at Boro, in the top flight his teams grinded and happy with 0-0. In Championship they will be favourites most week and have to show attacking initiative

Is his first game in charge against us?
