What's interesting about it is that she could have represented/supported any of a number of minor political parties with those views, including the Greens. This is surprisingly typical - there's a group of people who move in between minor parties where they have more chance of a bit of influence or an actual selection (as here) and essentially build up a portfolio of odd and sometimes mutually contradictory beliefs.

Give her five years and she'll be a jihadi, like Barry from 'Four Lions'.

I will say one thing for her - she's ranted about what she thinks, without any thought to winning votes. The typical UKIP voter might be on board with non-working mothers, public toilets and guillotining, but she'll have alienated them with the working till seventy, no bus passes and banning golf...

Ukip on the warpath to remain relevant today by hitting the far right instincts they've barely hidden for years. They've obviously not quite hit full desperation yet because they've stopped short of openly going for the Jews for but still. Burqa bans and Sharia law dogwhistle stuff. But Jewish courts are alright because we've had them for years.

...Why are they getting any screen time at all?

They are a shower of absolute shite to be sure, but there's never been any hint of anti Semitism. To be fair that's been an exclusively Labour problem over the last 12 months or so - and not just with Red Ken.

Exit: also worth noting the French Burqa ban was introduced by Hollande, a Socialist President. It's not a left/right issue.

Are you sure about the lack of anti semitism in the UKIP ranks? I seem to recall they have openly racist in more or less every other form comments, they'll be a few good old-fashioned Bible thumping Jews killed our saviour comments somewhere...

In fact a quick Google suggests they've had a fair few run ins with it. If we're going to criticise Labour as a whole for a few daft members we can throw UKIP under the same bus i think (and that's without getting into the old Israel =/= Jewish thing). Their London chairman only last year got binned after throwing around some anti-Jewish slurs. Amongst other whispers about other members. And they've aligned with anti Semitic parties in the EU.

As for the French thing... Isn't that more France's immense, inherent to national identity secularism in society thing?

Fair enough, maybe it's been the frequency of the problem for Labour that made it stand out, along with supposedly being a credible party of government.

On the Burqa, I was making the point that it's not a right wing, let alone a far-right issue. In France it was in response to the repeated terror attacks but justified under laws on secularism.

The burqa ban can be a right wing or left wing issue, i agree.

In France it should be noted the bill was raised, and became law, under a right wing President, Sarkozy, under the auspices of protecting French ideals, and at the time France had had 3 terror attacks in the previous 10 years, only one of which was Islamic.

I think UKIP's support is obvious dogwhistle stuff.

Cheers, my bad in that case.

'Implement school-based medical checks on girls from groups at high risk of suffering FGM. These should take place annually and whenever they return from trips overseas'

'Just been on holiday to Pakistan haven't you, Aishah? Well, you know the drill, spread 'em for the nit nurse'

overlooking the implementation aspect of this policy  .... A case of (FGM) is either discovered or treated at a medical appointment in England every hour, according to analysis of NHS statistics by a charity

That is a pretty damning statistic and something should be done to prevent this practise

Sure, no disagreement. My comment is very much focused on the implementation.

Two points, is there any evidence whatsoever that postal voting causes "stealing votes" by minority communties?

And secondly the most aggravating factor of any "grooming gang" is the grooming and the paedophilia. It should be a long sentence whatever the races involved.

Definitely. The UKIPs "solution" isn't it, though.

They're just stealing the idea from Labour anyway.

A London MP has called for mandatory medical checks on schoolgirls to end Britain’s “shameful” failure to secure prosecutions for female genital mutilation.

Diane Abbott said the country needed to face up to the need for “routine medical examinations” as she warned that thousands of girls in the capital remained at risk of mutilation.

Yeah ... I guess the point I didn't make was how do you implement a policy ... this is fairly high profile from the likes of the UN isn't it ? ....think I read we've had zero prosecutions , France has had 200 , still far too much on the low side

. . . and it's just as stupid when they propose it.

Invasive vaginal exams on girls just for 'being muslim' (which is what this idea amounts to) are simply an abhorrent suggestion.

EDIT: I suppose there's a significant difference as well, between a Diane Abbott thought-fart on the one hand, and a UKIP policy document on the other.
