Imagine being known as the one who ended Lionel Messi's career 😬

Close call there and a horror tackle but as soon as you see Messi rolling around on the ground you know that it's nothing serious because if it was he would be laying still and not been flapping around.

Eire currently bottom of their group! Desperate times for the Republic. Notice Hourihane taking up residence on the bench too. Sad times.

Still starting James McClean shows the desperation of the squad. So shit he was even called up for a foul throw today

Lot of youngsters playing but lack a goalscorer badly

I can't actually recall a lowlier time for the Republic. When I was young they had brilliant players and were essentially the Burnley of international football.

years and years of neglect of the youth system from the FAI then trying short term 2nd generation English players to keep things ticking over

Its pretty much what is deserved at the moment and is no different than Villa under Lerner and Xia

Terrible. What do the media make of it all? When I lived there the media were pretty savage and that was when they were qualifying for things.

most of the RTE lads are retired now,  now the media is divided between the English players and the players that came through Ireland. Ones in Ireland support the manager as they know its a shit system and are happy to be patient as Kenny tries to change the style. guys from England who never played in Ireland want to bring in a MON, Big Sam type manager and go back to hoofball

Is Kenny the Lambert of Irish football but without the relatively successful bit to start with or just Remi Garde, sliding towards Sherwood levels of shitness?

Kenny is a bit better than Lambert, he got Dundalk into the Europa League group stage and Ireland got to the semi finals in Toulon and has won a lot domestically in Ireland with a decent European management record.

Its mainly the players are shit, Irish media moaned for years and years that Glenn Whelan was crap. He would be a star in this team

Well tonight we play against Canada. They have steadily improved over the last decade or so,so this will not be an easy game by any means. Was highly embarrasing not to qualify for the last world cup and we got off to a pretty meh start against El Salvador so hopefully we come out and perform better in this one.

Gonna go with a tight one and a 1-0 win Reyna with the goal.
